Summary Responsible for the overall upkeep, and maintenance of a fully integrated two hotel, three restaurant, executive golf course and 14 tennis court ocean front resort. Coordinates and manages special projects pertaining to engineering under the direction and the guidelines of the La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club, with direct responsibility for supervising the engineering staff, monitoring preventative maintenance programs, and managing operating expenses. Promotes and follows LJBTC, Inc.’s Signature Service standards and requirements ensuring a lasting impression of exemplary service resulting in supremely satisfied and loyal members and guests.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from Two‑year College or technical school; and/or five to ten years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Maintains skills and knowledge in the following areas: H.V.A.C. and Refrigeration; Boiler Plant Operation, A/C electrical and electrical troubleshooting; telephone switch; electronic door locks, arc welding, gas welding, soldering and brazing; plumbing (with steel, copper and plastic pipe; fire protection, hydraulics, pneumatics, sanitation, laundry and kitchen equipment).

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for staffing of all engineering and grounds positions. Selects, hires and trains all employees in this department.
  • Directly supervises all engineering and grounds personnel.
  • Ensures quality control and work standards are maintained and regularly updated to meet changing department and property needs.
  • Implements and monitors preventative maintenance programs.
  • Plans, coordinates and oversees major capital projects.
  • Prepares reports, budgets and correspondence.
  • Prepares monthly financial critiques along with monthly 90 day rolling forecast.
  • Sets projects specifications and obtains competitive pricing (3 bid process).
  • Ensures that compliance is met with all applicable ordinances, regulations and laws (OSHA, ADA, etc.).
  • Maintains inventories of repair parts and consumable supplies to minimize downtime and maximize cash flow.
  • Administers work request program in conjunction with HotSOS system.
  • Provides support and assistance to all departments to serve guest satisfaction, sales and profit goals.
  • Ensures neatness and cleanliness of the engineering shop and all engineering storage and areas of responsibility
  • Establishes annual goals.
  • Facilitates monthly departmental meeting.
  • Other duties may be assigned.
  • Must have a valid California Driver's License.
  • Confers with department employees to resolve complaints.
  • Coaches and counsels department personnel as needed.
  • Sets an example for subordinates by meeting and exceeding the performance requirements of the job and maintaining good work habits (punctuality, reliability).
  • Analyzes tasks for potential dangers and promptly corrects hazards or informs supervisor and/or safety committee representative.
  • Follows safety rules and regulations at all times.
  • In conjunction with the preventative maintenance program, observes the building and mechanical equipment to identify ways to conserve energy.
  • Whenever possible, attempts to reduce unnecessary energy consumption and to ensure necessary consumption is as efficient as possible.
  • Assists in effectively establishing and implementing energy conservation programs.
  • Offers technical advice and information for energy programs within each department.
  • Maintains knowledge of the building fire and life safety systems and trains others in the operation of the system.
  • Maintains familiarity with the La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club Emergency Organization Plan.
  • Assist in preparation of yearly budget.
  • Monitors the purchase order and material requisition systems to ensure that effective cost control is being maintained.
  • Completes monthly critiques and 90 day rolling forecast in regards to payroll, energy conservation, telephone, consumables and demands.
  • Manages labor costs according to agreed labor standards
  • Responsible for the maintenance activities on utility systems to provide continuous supply of heat, electric power, gas, or air required for operations.
  • Inspects operating machines and equipment for conformance with operational standards.
  • Assists Engineering Supervisors and Director of Engineering in planning, developing, and implementing new methods and procedures designed to improve operations, minimize operating costs, and effect greater utilization of labor and materials.
  • Responds and ensures quick response by the Engineering Department to member and guest needs, which will meet or exceed customer expectations.
  • Confers with management to resolve maintenance problems and recommend measures to improve operations and conditions of machines and equipment.
