About The Position

As the Director of Engineering, you are responsible for maintaining the physical integrity, safety, and efficiency of the property. You lead the engineering team in ensuring all systems and equipment function optimally while also upholding strict compliance with fire/life safety regulations. Your oversight ensures a safe, well-maintained, and welcoming environment for guests and team members alike-directly impacting guest satisfaction, operational continuity, and regulatory compliance. HOW YOU'LL SHAPE THE EXPERIENCE & FUTURE Lead and manage all engineering operations, including preventative maintenance, emergency repairs, and property improvement projects. Ensure full compliance with local, state, and federal safety standards, particularly related to fire/life safety systems. Serve as the point of contact for all inspections, testing, and certifications tied to building safety and critical infrastructure. Partner cross-functionally with departments like Housekeeping, Front Office, and Food & Beverage to quickly resolve maintenance needs while minimizing guest disruption. Maintain strong vendor relationships and oversee service contracts to ensure timely, high-quality work at competitive costs. Train and mentor engineering team members on safety protocols, equipment use and troubleshooting techniques. Monitor and maintain the Fire Panel; ensure updated contact info for the monitoring company is on file Schedule and track annual testing of the fire panel, fire sprinklers, and generator Oversee monthly fire extinguisher inspections and documentation Order fuel for generator regularly and ensure availability in case of emergencies Track timing and documentation for the 5-Year Fire System Certification (know last completion and next due date) Coordinate quarterly kitchen hood system cleanings; keep record of last service Ensure Ansel Fire Suppression Systems are serviced quarterly and in compliance Ensure all logs, permits, and inspection records are complete, accurate, and accessible Other duties assigned

Requirements

  • Strong technical knowledge of building systems (electrical, HVAC, plumbing, fire/life safety, etc.)
  • Deep understanding of compliance, safety codes, and preventative maintenance best practices
  • Skilled in vendor management, recordkeeping, and coordinating large-scale inspections and projects
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and leadership abilities
  • Calm and responsive under pressure, especially during emergencies or unexpected issues
  • 5+ years of progressive engineering or facilities management experience in a hotel, resort, or similar commercial property
  • Proven leadership experience managing a team of engineers or maintenance staff
  • Experience coordinating with external inspectors, vendors, and regulatory agencies
  • High school diploma or equivalent required

Nice To Haves

  • Technical trade school certification or degree in Engineering, Facilities Management, or a related field preferred
  • Certifications in HVAC, Electrical, or Fire Safety a plus
