About The Position

The Director of Engineering will play a pivotal role within the Product Development team, serving as a crucial integration point between the Engineering team, Domestic Operations, and the Strategic Business Units. This position focuses on driving innovation in consumer products by aligning technical performance requirements with market changes and consumer needs. The role demands strong interaction with product management and requires expertise in Electrical Engineering, along with both domestic and international experience.

Requirements

  • 10 plus years of broad technical experience in product development for domestic manufacturing.
  • Minimum of 5 years leading technical product development teams.
  • Experience in Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA).
  • Knowledge of design of plastic injection molded parts, electromechanical integration, and metal stamped parts.
  • Ability to assess data objectively and make scientifically sound decisions.
  • Six Sigma trained, with a Black Belt considered a plus.
  • In-depth knowledge of engineering design, quality control, and manufacturing processes.
  • Bachelor's degree in an Engineering discipline.
  • Project management experience with large, complex projects.
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Visio, and statistical software like Minitab.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with the Product Management team to develop and drive technical innovation that aligns with consumer needs.
  • Create and implement the strategic direction of the engineering team.
  • Mentor the engineering team to convert marketing and consumer requirements into technical performance requirements.
  • Provide front-end engineering leadership and vision on engineering technology and best practices.
  • Manage an effective product development process from ideation through end of product life.
  • Create and sustain a culture of creativity and work ethic focused on achieving goals on time and within budget.
  • Resolve conflicting design constraints through analysis and testing.
  • Align Engineering resources with the overall strategy for the business unit.
  • Manage a gated product development process.
  • Direct the development of engineering standards and oversee their implementation.
  • Foster an environment of continuous improvement and quick-to-market thinking.
  • Partner with Operations for new product introduction planning.
  • Drive Value Based Engineering (VBE) initiatives into product design.
  • Communicate strategic objectives and execute development plans domestically and globally.
  • Lead the Mechanical Engineering team as a shared resource between Domestic and Import Engineering Teams.
  • Assess data objectively to make scientifically sound decisions.
  • Manage the overall domestic project portfolio to ensure team KPI's are met.
  • Ensure adherence to safety standards, industry regulations, and quality certifications for both domestic and imported products.
  • Proactively identify potential risks and create mitigation strategies.
  • Oversee engineering of both domestic and imported goods, ensuring product designs and manufacturing processes meet industry standards.
  • Work closely with supply chain, procurement, and operations teams for seamless integration of imported goods.
  • Implement best practices in engineering design and testing.
  • Oversee sustainable engineering practices and compliance with environmental regulations.
