Director of Engineering

Property MeldRapid City, SD

About The Position

This role is for someone uniquely skilled at turning engineering excellence into business outcomes. You will lead the teams building the product that defines our category, setting the standard for how we ship, how we scale, and how we grow the engineers doing the work. ABOUT PROPERTY MELD At Property Meld, we are on a mission to radically improve property maintenance operations. Maintenance is one of the most broken workflows in property management and we are fixing it with intelligent, proactive software that reduces chaos, creates visibility, and delivers better experiences for property managers, residents, vendors, and owners. We sit on one of the largest maintenance data sets in the market and are entering our next phase by activating that data to power intelligence and automation. The engineering decisions made over the next two years will define how far and how fast we can go. Property Meld operates as a B2B2C, multi-sided platform. Historically strong in SMB, we are now expanding up-market into multifamily and enterprise. This creates a rare opportunity to build for complexity, scale, and network effects all at once. As the engineering leader at Property Meld, you will own execution, partner with Product and Design, and grow a team that ships work people actually depend on. WHO YOU ARE 👋 You lead through context, not control. Your team understands the why behind the work and they move faster because of it. You have strong opinions about how software gets built: quality, velocity, reliability, and the tradeoffs between them. You can defend those opinions and change them when the evidence says to. You build engineers, not just systems. You know how to develop technical talent, give feedback that actually lands, and create an environment where people do their best work. You are an AI-First operator. You are actively using AI to accelerate development cycles, improve code quality, and level up your team's capabilities. You thrive in the space between ambiguity and execution. You can hold a technical conversation with an IC and a strategic conversation with the CEO in the same afternoon. You write clearly. Your RFCs, incident postmortems, and team updates are worth reading. You take quality seriously without using it as a reason to slow down. You understand the difference between the two.

Requirements

  • 7+ years in software engineering, with at least 3 years in an engineering leadership role
  • A track record of building and scaling B2B SaaS products in production environments
  • Deep experience leading engineering teams through growth: hiring, onboarding, performance management, and retention
  • Demonstrated ability to balance delivery speed with technical integrity and make that tradeoff visible to the business
  • Strong communication skills across technical and non-technical audiences

Nice To Haves

  • Background in proptech, real estate, field service, or operations software
  • Experience building or integrating AI-powered features, LLM workflows, or intelligent automation into production products
  • Time inside a company between 30 and 150 employees. You know what it means to build with real constraints.
  • Familiarity with multi-sided platform architecture or B2B2C product environments

Responsibilities

  • Drive architectural decisions that support scale, maintainability, and AI integration
  • Lead incident response culture: fast resolution, clear communication, and real learning afterward
  • Build direct relationships with individual contributors. You know who your strongest engineers are, what they need to grow, and what would make them leave.
  • Define engineering metrics that connect system health to customer experience and business outcomes
  • Own the evaluation and integration of AI-powered development tooling and practices across the team
