About The Position

St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center is offering an exciting opportunity to work with a talented , dedicated, and compassionate team as our new Director of Plant Operations. This position is responsible for directing and overseeing the functionality and safety of the facility to protect our patients and employees and provide Service Excellence at every opportunity. The Director of Plant Operations plans, organizes, directs, coordinates, and controls the operations of the Plant Operations and Facilities Management departments. This leader serves as the Hospital Safety Officer, ensuring compliance with all local, state, and federal regulatory requirements, including The Joint Commission (TJC), CMS, EPA, OSHA, and others. Responsibilities include managing staff and contractors to ensure the safe and efficient operation of all hospital buildings, overseeing the repair and maintenance of equipment and facilities, supporting energy management initiatives, and developing both operating and capital budgets. This role also oversees the Safety and Emergency Management Program for the organization.

Requirements

  • High school diploma required plus degree or certification in a technical trade or facility-related field; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of hospital engineering management experience required.
  • Knowledge of NFPA codes, TJC and CMS standards, EPA, OSHA, and state/local regulations.
  • Comprehensive experience across building trades, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and carpentry.
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Experience with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) and Building Management Systems (BMS).
  • Previous project management experience required.
  • Ability to obtain Secure and TEAM Nonviolent Crisis Intervention Training within 6 months of hire.
  • DOT HAZMAT training required within 90 days of employment and maintained thereafter.

Responsibilities

  • Prioritize employee and patient safety in all operational procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, Infection Control, Environment of Care (EOC), and other safety standards.
  • Conduct staff training, safety rounds, and documentation review.
  • Assign, verify and document completion of all routine maintenance and repairs
  • Direct, oversee and maintain required documentation for energy management and conservation and preventative maintenance programs.
  • Assess staffing needs and maintain adequate coverage for all facility operations.
  • Utilize tracking tools to measure productivity, workflow, and department performance.
  • Monitor and develop team member performance to include, but not be limited to, providing supervision and professional development, conducting counseling and evaluations and delivering recognition for Service Excellence.
