About The Position

AssetMark is a leading strategic provider of innovative investment and consulting solutions serving independent financial advisors. We provide investment, relationship, and practice management solutions that advisors use in helping clients achieve wealth, independence, and purpose. The Director, Network Engineering at Assetmark will lead the design, implementation, and operation of our enterprise-wide network infrastructure, spanning on premises, cloud, and hybrid environments. This role combines technical depth with leadership responsibilities, teams of engineers both onshore and offshore. The director will be hands on in network operations, engineering, and architecture, while also driving strategic initiatives that enhance performance, scalability, and security across Assetmark’s global environment. This role will also oversee Assetmark’s 24x7 Production Operations team responsible for monitoring, maintaining, and supporting mission-critical systems and services. This leader will manage all production-related requests, incidents, and changes across multiple platforms, ensuring system reliability, operational excellence, and continuous improvement. The role requires a strong technical background, proven leadership skills, and the ability to drive operational stability across a complex hybrid cloud environment. We can consider candidates for this position who are able to accommodate a hybrid work schedule and are close to one of our following offices: Charlotte, NC or Atlanta, GA.

Requirements

  • Proven hands-on expertise with: Cisco routing/switching (CCNP/CCIE strongly preferred).
  • Palo Alto Networks (PCNSE or equivalent certification preferred).
  • F5 load balancing and security appliances (a plus).
  • Azure networking (Front Door, Application Gateway, ExpressRoute, VPN, NSGs, routing, peering).
  • Managing firewall rule sets, including source/destination IPs, ports, and protocols.
  • Solid background in a managed service environment, with a focus on operational reliability.
  • MFT platforms (GoAnywhere, similar) and enterprise file movement practices.
  • Enterprise batch automation tools (ActiveBatch ideal) including Azure Batch, Azure Data Factory, Azure Databricks, AWS Batch, IBM Workload Automation
  • Infrastructure monitoring, alerting, and incident response processes.
  • Strong understanding of ITIL or similar operational frameworks (Incident, Problem, Change, Request Management).
  • Network automation and scripting for operational efficiency.
  • DNS, DHCP, Active Directory integrated services, and certificate management.
  • WAF technologies (Imperva, Azure WAF, etc.) and application authentication.
  • Strong understanding of hybrid and multi-cloud networking (Azure primary; AWS/GCP familiarity beneficial).
  • Hands-on security experience: intrusion detection, prevention, firewalls, segmentation, SIEM integration (Splunk/Kibana/AppInsight), and compliance frameworks.
  • Proficiency in scripting/automation (Terraform, Python, PowerShell, APIs).
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 9+ years of progressive experience in network engineering, architecture, and operations.
  • Minimum 3 years managing or supervising technical teams in complex enterprise environments.

Responsibilities

  • Network Operations & Engineering (30%) Oversee the daily operations, health, and performance of enterprise networking systems, including routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, wireless, WAN circuits, DNS, DHCP, and Active Directory integrated network services.
  • Infrastructure Management - Oversee the maintenance and organization of onpremise communications infrastructure, including comms closets, structured cabling, and data center environments.
  • Third-Party Coordination - Manage external vendors and service providers during project execution and service outages, including facilitating root cause analysis and resolution.
  • Manage enterprise connectivity across corporate offices, data centers, and Azure cloud networking stacks. Implement and maintain secure, scalable solutions for Azure. Comparable understanding of AWS and GCP networking services considered.
  • Hands on design and implementation of technologies such as Cisco routing/switching, Palo Alto firewalls, F5 load balancers, Azure Front Door, Application Gateways, Imperva and other WAFs, VPN gateways, Zero Trust networks, and application authentication services.
  • Manage certificate lifecycle, DNS, DHCP, IPAM, Remote Access, Zero Trust, and identity aware network services.
  • Platform Oversight & Support (30%) Ensure reliable monitoring, alert response, and incident resolution for all production environments.
  • Oversee operational support for: Azure Infrastructure Services (IaaS, PaaS, networking, identity, security, and automation functions).
  • Virtual Machine Management including provisioning, patching, upgrades, and lifecycle management.
  • Active Directory and Identity Services including EntraID, DNS, DHCP, authentication, and access controls.
  • Managed File Transfer (MFT) technologies and all enterprise file movement solutions.
  • Batch Processing with primary responsibility for ActiveBatch as the enterprise scheduling and automation platform.
  • Coordinate planned maintenance, patching, upgrades, and operational changes across platforms, ensuring minimal service disruption.
  • Network Security & Architecture (20%) Lead secure network architecture initiatives, ensuring designs comply with best practices, regulatory standards, and business requirements.
  • Conduct vulnerability assessments, audits, and remediation activities for global networks.
  • Define and enforce security configurations across firewalls, Azure Policies, VPNs, routing, and load balancing appliances.
  • Collaborate with cybersecurity, compliance, and audit teams to ensure a strong, proactive security posture.
  • Integrate automation and scripting (Terraform, Python, APIs) for monitoring, telemetry, and security tool orchestration.
  • Documentation Support - Contribute to the accurate collation and maintenance of asset inventories, billing records, and service documentation.
  • Operational Flexibility - Undertake additional duties as required to support infrastructure and operations continuity.
  • Team Leadership & Development (10%) Manage, mentor, and develop a small team of network engineers (onshore and offshore), fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and technical excellence.
  • Drive recruitment, onboarding, scheduling, training, and performance evaluations.
  • Ensure the team remains current on modern network and cloud technologies through ongoing education and certifications.
  • Strategic Planning, Compliance & Reporting (10%) Contribute to Assetmark’s networking strategy, supporting cloud adoption, digital transformation, and operational excellence.
  • Develop budgets for network engineering and operations, ensuring cost effective delivery of services.
  • Maintain compliance with internal and external standards while simplifying processes to improve agility.
  • Deliver reporting and executive communication on network availability, security posture, and project outcomes.
