About the Team: The Content & Search team powers our user’s ability to create, find, organize and share the learning content that powers over 1B learning interactions each week. We operate full stack, leveraging the latest LLM, frontend, and service technologies to create effective and delightful experiences that scale globally to all the world’s learners and learning material. We meet students where they are, operating cross-platform and AI-first to maximize learning outcomes. About the Role: As Director of Engineering, Content & Search you will be responsible for our core efforts in getting users to the right learning content. You’ll lead the way on strategy and engineering, working closely with cross-functional partners to define and execute on some of our biggest bets in Creation, Search, and Generative AI/LLM experiences. You’ll shape and grow your team to deliver on this mission, and shape our technology roadmap to maximize long term results. Success in this role means people from all around the world will succeed in growing and learning! We’re happy to share that this is an onsite position at our San Francisco office. To help foster team collaboration, we require that employees be in the office at a minimum of three days a week : Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday and as needed by your manager or the company. Requirements

  • 10+ years of software development experience with expertise in frontend, mobile and fullstack systems
  • 7+ years leading and managing teams including managing managers
  • Strong problem-solving skills and project execution skills
  • Demonstrated ability in system architecture and design, understanding of design patterns, and ability to solve complex technical design challenges with attention to scalability and performance concerns
  • The desire and ability to work across team and functional boundaries
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to the little details needed to make informed decisions
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Excitement about the impact your work could have on the lives of students and teachers every day

Responsibilities

  • Report to the VP of Engineering and contribute as a key member of the leadership team
  • Drive the strategic roadmap for a main pillar of Quizlet user activity, including prioritization and technology decisions with stakeholders across the organization
  • Mentor teams in the design and implementation of complex systems, fostering a culture of innovation and technical excellence
  • Drive and deliver critical cross-functional efforts central to to Quizlet’s future
  • Promote best practices across the organization with respect to software architecture, user quality, and scalability
