About The Position

As a Director of Engineering, AI/ML Services you will be expected to perform in settings of high visibility and rapid growth. Competitive candidates will have a track record of high output leadership as well as experience shipping cloud software and data products at scale. Candidates with experience shipping ML platforms will be very competitive. Understanding of genetics and biology and previous experience in the Pharma industry is a plus, but not required outside of a willingness to learn. Equally important will be excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills, and the ability to represent and transmit the values and principles of our AIML team. As a Director of AI/ML Engineering, you will: Provide leadership to a global team of highly performing scientists and statisticians, ensuring common global projects, fostering an inclusive and agile way-of-working in line with the vision of “One global R&D”. Act as essential partner for project teams or other stakeholder groups, promoting application of advanced data analytics in all aspects of Technical Research & Development (TRD). Support the implementation of GSK’s digital strategy with strong focus on the concrete needs of TRD in terms of data capture, massive data storage, omics, chemometrics, and machine learning. Build network and work across boundaries with various data-analytics and data-science initiatives across GSK globally. Work closely with the Head of Global Project Statistics to build a fluid organization and actively avoid silos by allowing people to transition easily between the two teams in direct response to business needs. Identify areas of opportunities and upskilling the organisation for the application of advanced data analytics techniques. Represent the organization on key conferences and advocacy groups to influence the external and regulatory environment. Requirements

  • Graduate studies in Computer Science or undergraduate studies in Computer Science and equivalent experience.
  • 4+ years as an independent contributor capable of end-to-end development of data-driven products and services.
  • Advanced Python programming skills and a track record of delivering robust software solutions.
  • 4+ years working with Google Cloud Platform or similar enterprise cloud environment: security and privacy controls, deployments and scaling, monitoring, alerting, and analytics.
  • 2+ years of experience in a technical lead or engineering manager role with direct reports.
  • 4+ years of experience of professional software development practices: code standards, code review, version control, CI/CD, testing, documentation, Agile, with the ability to mentor others in these practices.
  • 4+ years working with standard deep learning algorithms and model architectures.

Nice To Haves

  • PhD in Computer science, with particular studies in the crossover domains of life science and machine learning.
  • Engineering team lead or engineering line management experience on large-scale AI and machine learning software platforms including LLMs and agents frameworks, search and feature store, reinforcement learning.
  • Demonstrated track record of success in shipping impactful AI/ML products in the Pharma industry.
  • Academic or industry background in biology and life sciences domain.
