Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Health Information Management, Healthcare Administration, Information Systems, or related field required
  • 7–10 years of progressive experience in healthcare information systems or health IT
  • 3–5 years in a leadership or management role overseeing EMR/EHR systems
  • Experience with major EMR platforms (e.g., DetainEMR, Epic, Cerner, Meditech, Athenahealth, eClinicalWorks)
  • Strong knowledge of healthcare regulations, data governance, and clinical workflows
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and large-scale system initiatives
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Analytical mindset with strong problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced healthcare environment

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree preferred
  • Corrections experience is a plus
  • NCCHC is preferred or must obtain within 1-year of employment

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic direction for the EMR/EHR platform and maintain a multi-year technology roadmap aligned with organizational and clinical objectives.
  • Lead system planning, upgrades, implementations, and integrations to support evolving clinical and operational needs.
  • Oversee configuration, maintenance, and optimization of EMR workflows to improve usability, documentation quality, efficiency, and data capture.
  • Monitor system performance, uptime, and user experience, resolving issues that impact clinical care or operations.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory and accreditation standards, including NCCHC, HIPAA, HITECH, CMS, and Joint Commission.
  • Oversee audit readiness, data integrity, and record retention practices, in partnership with Compliance, Legal, and IT Security.
  • Serve as the primary strategic liaison to medical, nursing, IT, and operational leadership regarding EMR initiatives.
  • Translate clinical and organizational priorities into EMR-enabled solutions that support patient care, quality improvement, population health, and reporting.
  • Lead organizational change management for EMR initiatives, including communication strategies, workflow redesign, training, and adoption planning.
  • Own EMR performance metrics and executive reporting related to efficiency, documentation quality, compliance risk, and clinical workflows.
  • Lead corrective action plans and drive continuous improvement when EMR performance impacts care delivery or operational outcomes.
  • Prepare and manage the EMR department budget, evaluate ROI of initiatives, and lead vendor evaluations and contract negotiations.
  • Lead, mentor, and retain a high-performing EMR team by setting clear expectations, providing coaching, and promoting accountability.
  • Participate in company planning initiatives where data, reporting, and clinical workflows are critical.
