The Director of Employment & Employee Engagement is responsible for overseeing and managing all employment and employee relations activities within the College. This includes a comprehensive range of responsibilities such as hiring, recruiting, onboarding, retention, and termination processes. The Director will also engage in problem intervention, support, counsel, and issue resolution, ensuring that the College maintains a welcoming and respectful work environment. A key aspect of this role involves evaluating and providing training for various campus constituencies, as well as developing and administering staff recognition and service award programs throughout the year. The Director will establish, fulfill, and track diversity hiring goals, as well as monitor turnover, retention, and termination data statistics. In this position, the Director will consult with hiring managers to identify and recruit a qualified and diversified workforce across all areas of the College. This includes overseeing and coordinating all employment activities for administrative and support staff, developing internal postings, advertisements, and recruitment plans to enhance HR's outreach strategies. The Director will manage the College's applicant tracking system and onboarding modules, conduct interviews for finalist candidates, and assist with reference and background checks in collaboration with hiring managers. Additionally, the Director will coach and guide hiring managers on best practices and the effective use of the Applicant Tracking System, including the creation of recruitment plans and innovative hiring strategies to fill challenging positions. The Director will also be responsible for coordinating verbal employment offers with hiring supervisors and issuing employment offer letters. Ensuring compliance with I-9 requirements for new employees and managing the necessary VISA processes for non-residents will be critical. The role includes assisting with employment onboarding for faculty, maintaining written business processes for employment activities, and handling offboarding communication and exit interview data collection. The Director will provide updated content for the quarterly HR newsletter and manage monthly open position reports. In addition to recruitment and onboarding, the Director will assist supervisors in preparing and conducting annual performance appraisals, review job descriptions to evaluate staff capabilities, and counsel supervisors on departmental reorganizations. The Director will also provide guidance on employee relations issues, conducting individual meetings as necessary to resolve conflicts and performance concerns. Recommendations for on-campus education training sessions will be made to the Sr. AVP of HR to ensure staff are informed on relevant workplace issues. The Director will manage the overall unemployment process, including claims and hearings, and oversee payment to staff temp agencies. They will plan and administer programs aimed at fostering a positive workplace environment, such as recognition programs and community-building events. Supervisory oversight will be provided to the Employment Generalist and Recruiter, and the Director will review policies and procedures to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations.
