About The Position

The Director of Employee Relations is responsible for providing leadership and strategic direction in the planning and implementation of human resources functions within Gwinnett County Public Schools. This role focuses on managing employee relations, handling inquiries and complaints related to discrimination, conducting internal investigations, and ensuring compliance with federal and state laws. The Director will also provide training and development to staff on equity and compliance matters, while maintaining a commitment to the district's mission and goals.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree in law or labor law preferred.
  • Minimum of five years of professional experience in employee relations or human resources.
  • Knowledge of federal and state laws related to employment and discrimination.
  • Exceptional communication and leadership skills.
  • Proficient in computer software including PeopleSoft and Microsoft Office Suite.

Nice To Haves

  • Senior Professional Human Resources (SPHR) or Professional Human Resources (PHR) Certification preferred.
  • Experience in school, supervisory, and leadership roles.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and strategic direction for human resources functions in assigned schools.
  • Handle inquiries and complaints related to Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) and discrimination.
  • Conduct internal investigations of allegations related to school board policy and federal laws.
  • Prepare detailed reports and recommendations based on investigations and findings.
  • Advise district administrators on policies and procedures to resolve employee issues.
  • Develop and deliver training on EEO practices and human relations.
  • Manage employee complaints and serve as a legal liaison.
  • Analyze statistical data to monitor employment practices and equity.
  • Prepare reports for leadership on investigation data and compliance issues.
  • Assist with recommendations for termination and disciplinary actions.
