About The Position

The Director of Employee Engagement at Sam Houston State University is responsible for leading the People Operations engagement initiatives, focusing on training, professional development, employee relations, and enhancing overall employee satisfaction and retention. This role involves collaborating with university leadership to identify training needs, overseeing the implementation of training programs, and ensuring compliance with legal and institutional requirements. The Director will also design and implement initiatives to strengthen employee connection to the university, analyze employee feedback, and recommend improvements to enhance the employee experience.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in human resources, business, communications, or related field.
  • Five years of directly related experience in employee engagement or human resources.
  • Master's degree preferred.
  • Higher education experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Directs People Operations engagement with employees through training, professional development, staff performance evaluations, employee relations, leaves and accommodations, programming and events.
  • Provides visionary guidance for the Employee Engagement team, ensuring alignment with the university's culture of excellence.
  • Oversees professional development, training, employee relations, unemployment, employee leaves, accommodations, and engagement.
  • Supervises staff responsible for creating, implementing, evaluating, and reporting on training programs for employees at all levels.
  • Collaborates with university leadership to identify training needs and deliver leadership training programs.
  • Ensures accurate training records/reporting and successful administration of staff annual appraisals.
  • Manages staff addressing employee relations, leaves, and accommodations, ensuring compliance with legal and institutional requirements.
  • Addresses workplace conflicts, reviews policy violations, and serves as an escalation point for complex issues.
  • Offers counsel to leadership, conducts investigations, and provides mediation services as needed.
  • Designs and implements initiatives that enhance employee connection, satisfaction, and retention across the university.
  • Establishes mechanisms for gathering employee feedback, analyzing trends, and recommending actionable improvements.
