About The Position

The Director of Employee and Labor Relations at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai (ISMMS) is responsible for providing strategic Employee and Labor Relations support across various business functions. This role involves advising school leadership on workforce planning, organizational development, and addressing human capital concerns. The Director will act as a close advisor, utilizing a consultative approach to build strong relationships with leadership and enhance the overall employee experience.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field; Master's degree preferred.
  • Six plus years of progressive HR Generalist experience.
  • Knowledge of principles, practices, and procedures relevant to Human Resources.
  • Proven track record of relationship building with internal and external customers.
  • Experience with recruitment, sourcing candidates, and compensation knowledge.
  • Ability to handle employee conflicts and interpret verbal/non-verbal behavior.
  • Demonstrated business acumen and understanding of business strategy and goals.
  • HR knowledge and experience in a technology organization preferred.

  • Ability to move about on campus and offsite buildings, may include travel.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees human resources responsibilities across ISMMS, using data and fact-based problem-solving techniques to improve processes and outcomes.
  • Ensures operations run according to institutional and departmental policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Handles internal investigations for various levels of ISMMS, collaborating with Legal and Compliance departments.
  • Manages, interprets, and educates faculty and staff on the collective bargaining agreement for post-doctoral fellows.
  • Hears grievances and issues presented by the union on behalf of post-doctoral fellows and Principal Investigators.
  • Plans, develops, and maintains departmental standard operating procedures.
  • Regularly reviews policies and procedures, recommending changes as necessary.
  • Collaborates with leadership to identify personnel needs and workforce planning strategies.
  • Develops and maintains strong working relationships with leadership and team members.
  • Serves as HR liaison with department administrators regarding ISMMS policies and personnel administration.
  • Advises on HR policies and Faculty handbook interpretations, including leave procedures.
  • Develops and conducts training programs related to employee relations and policies for ISMMS faculty and staff.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending workshops and reviewing publications.
