About The Position

The Director of Emergency Services provides strategic, operational, and clinical leadership for a high-volume Emergency Department. This role is responsible for driving exceptional patient-centered care while optimizing clinical quality, operational efficiency, patient throughput, workforce engagement, and financial performance. The Director partners closely with executive leadership, medical staff, and interdisciplinary teams to ensure regulatory compliance, performance excellence, and continuous improvement across all emergency services operations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN)
  • Active RN license (Compact or state-eligible)
  • Minimum of 1 year of emergency services leadership or related experience
  • Demonstrated ability to lead in a fast-paced, high-volume emergency care environment

  • Master’s Degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, or Business
  • 3+ years of progressive emergency department leadership experience
  • Proven success in quality improvement, patient experience, and staff engagement initiatives

Responsibilities

  • Establish and sustain evidence-based clinical practices to enhance patient safety, outcomes, and quality metrics
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory, accreditation, and legal standards
  • Oversee patient flow, admissions, discharges, and throughput optimization initiatives
  • Direct departmental operations, clinical standards, and policy implementation
  • Drive performance improvement in key quality initiatives, including sepsis outcomes and patient safety indicators
  • Lead initiatives to enhance patient satisfaction and the overall emergency department experience
  • Utilize patient feedback and benchmarking data to support continuous improvement
  • Ensure consistent, high-quality patient interactions aligned with organizational service standards
  • Foster a culture of accountability, engagement, and professional excellence
  • Oversee recruitment, retention, performance management, and leadership development
  • Provide coaching, mentoring, and succession planning for leadership and frontline teams
  • Lead a multidisciplinary team of managers, charge nurses, and support staff
  • Collaborate with physicians and senior leadership to expand services and enhance departmental capabilities
  • Support future growth initiatives, including emergency department expansion and increased patient volume
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and innovative care models to support operational effectiveness
  • Lead departmental budgeting, forecasting, and expense management
  • Ensure effective labor utilization, staffing models, and productivity management
  • Identify cost-containment opportunities while maintaining quality and safety standards
  • Monitor KPIs and operational dashboards to drive accountability and performance improvement
