About The Position

The Director of Education leads IISTL's educational programming for refugees and immigrants, ensuring access to high-quality English language learning, youth and adult education, citizenship preparation, and pathways to college and career success. This role provides strategic, operational, and people leadership across multiple education programs and manages a diverse team of staff, teachers, interns, and volunteers. The Director of Education is a key member of the leadership team and is responsible for program excellence, compliance, financial oversight, staff development, and community partnerships, while advancing IISTL's mission, vision, and strategic goals.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in TESOL or a closely related field
  • 8+ years of ESOL teaching experience
  • 3+ years of program and staff management experience

Responsibilities

  • Program Leadership (35%): Oversee development and implementation of curricula including ESOL, Citizenship, pre-vocational, teen, and youth programs
  • Set program goals aligned with organizational strategy and funder requirements
  • Plan, implement, evaluate, and improve education programs
  • Ensure program quality, compliance, and adherence to legal and internal guidelines
  • Lead grant-related activities including proposal writing, data collection, reporting, and quality improvement
  • Apply risk, change, and resource management strategies as needed
  • Management & Community Engagement (20%): Lead regular staff meetings and ensure clear program communication
  • Supervise staff with ongoing feedback and annual performance evaluations
  • Build and maintain partnerships with schools, educational institutions, and community stakeholders
  • Represent IISTL professionally in the community
  • Financial Oversight (20%): Oversee federal, state, and foundation-funded contracts
  • Assist with departmental budgeting and financial monitoring
  • Ensure timely and appropriate use of grant funds
  • Support fundraising and grant-writing efforts as applicable
  • Leadership & Supervision (20%): Supervise program and project managers and resolve complex operational challenges
  • Promote diversity, equity, and inclusion across programs and staff
  • Collaborate with senior leadership and other departments to integrate services agency-wide
  • Provide regular reports and updates to senior management
  • Represent the organization publicly as needed
  • Additional Duties (5%): Support organizational initiatives and special projects
  • Pursue relevant training opportunities for staff and programs
  • Perform other duties as assigned
