About The Position

At Spread the Word Nevada, we believe every child deserves the chance to discover the joy and power of reading. Since 2001, we've placed millions of books into the hands and homes of children across Nevada's most at-risk communities - inspiring a lifelong love of learning and brighter academic futures. We're seeking a passionate and visionary Director of Development to lead the charge in expanding our impact and ensuring that every child in Nevada has access to books and literacy programs. As a key member of our executive leadership team, you'll oversee fundraising, marketing, and community engagement initiatives that directly support our $3.5M annual mission.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required; master's degree or CFRE certification preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive fundraising experience, including 3+ years in management or leadership roles.
  • Proven success in major gift fundraising, donor cultivation, and event-based revenue generation.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to inspire and influence others.
  • Excellent organizational and project management abilities; able to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and donor management software (e.g., Donorview, Salesforce, etc.).
  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed for events or donor engagement.
  • Valid Nevada driver's license, current insurance, and reliable transportation required.

Responsibilities

  • Lead all fundraising efforts, including major gifts, corporate and foundation partnerships, grants, sponsorships, and legacy giving.
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive fundraising strategy aligned with organizational goals.
  • Build and maintain relationships with donors, partners, and community leaders to advance the mission.
  • Oversee planning and execution of signature events, including the Annual Storybook Gala and community fundraisers.
  • Direct the organization's marketing, communications, and public relations strategy to strengthen brand visibility.
  • Supervise and mentor the Development and Marketing teams, fostering a culture of collaboration and excellence.
  • Partner with the CEO and Board on strategic initiatives and long-term sustainability planning.
  • Manage departmental budget and ensure compliance with fundraising ethics and nonprofit best practices.
