About The Position

The primary function of the local office Director of Development is to create and implement a strategic plan to secure the funding necessary to meet Unbound Now’s budgetary needs and carry out its mission. This role leads the design of annual development plans, monitors progress toward goals, and executes high-impact fundraising campaigns and events. By engaging a diverse base of individual, church, and business donors, the Director stewards major gifts and builds a sustainable foundation of recurring local support. In addition to managing foundation relations and grant reporting, this position serves as a primary representative for Unbound Now through community speaking engagements across Austin and surrounding counties. Working in collaboration with other development leadership, the Director ensures unified messaging and coordinated strategies to build strong philanthropic partnerships and ensure long-term financial sustainability.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred) in nonprofit management, communications, fundraising, or related field
  • 5+ years of experience in nonprofit fundraising, donor relations, or advancement, including leadership roles
  • Proven track record in donor engagement and stewardship strategies
  • Proficiency with donor management systems (e.g., Raiser’s Edge, Salesforce NPSP), with a willingness and ability to learn Unbound Now’s CRM, Virtuous.
  • Ability to think strategically and stay positive and innovative as a problem solver.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines, and stakeholder relationships simultaneously.
  • Excellent administrative skills, detail-oriented, and well-organized.
  • Competent in the use of technology and highly motivated as a self-starter.
  • Mature Christian faith, as evidenced by participation in a local Christian church
  • Thorough commitment to the vision, mission, and values of Unbound Now
  • Provide at least three references (supervisor, professional, personal)
  • Abide by Unbound Now policies at all times, including the Gift Acceptance Policy. This includes submitting expense documentation (Ramp Monthly Closeout), travel reimbursements, and timesheet hours/grant allocations daily.
  • Pass all required criminal background checks and employment authorization checks
  • Must develop an in-depth understanding of all Unbound Now local office programs and services, and accurately and professionally represent them to donors and prospects
  • Appreciation of the transformational giving approach, with commitment to building long-term relationships with donors
  • Commitment to maintain the confidentiality of sensitive information
  • Willingness to use personal vehicle for business purposes, and a valid driver’s license and car insurance

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement an annual development plan to secure funding needed to meet Unbound Now's regional office’s budgetary needs to carry out its mission and vision.
  • Monitor and share progress toward goals, facilitating regularly scheduled development meetings with the local office's Regional Director.
  • Provide strategic leadership in the execution and management of Unbound Now local office development efforts, including individual giving, donor appreciation, and fundraising events, and church, corporate, and foundation relationships.
  • Develop and implement Unbound Now local office fundraising campaigns in coordination with Unbound Now HQ and other Unbound Now offices, including but not limited to Giving Tuesday and End-of-Year giving, working with Unbound Now’s CRM Specialist to build out and track campaigns in Unbound Now’s CRM and Marketing software, Virtuous.
  • Lead execution of the annual fundraising luncheon by securing sponsorships and table sales, and collaborate with the team to deliver a compelling program that inspires strong financial support for Unbound Now.
  • Collaborate with the Unbound Now Director of Communications to develop presentations and fundraising reports for Unbound Now HQ, the Unbound Now local office Advisory Board, funders, volunteers, and the local office community.
  • Coordinate with the local office leadership to promote key donor relationships, including helping to schedule conversations between the local office Regional Director and key donors and prospects.
  • Execute the plan for the annual fundraiser luncheon by securing sponsorships and table sales. Work with the team to facilitate a great program that secures support for Unbound Now Create and implement a plan to identify and cultivate new individual, business, and church support.
  • Identify and prioritize high-potential relationships and opportunities.
  • In collaboration with Unbound Now’s Director of Communications, integrate Unbound Now’s key messaging into development initiatives and campaigns.
  • Steward and develop Unbound Now local office donor base, designing and implementing appropriate cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship activities.
  • Nurture and build the Unbound Now local office base of recurring donors.
  • Coordinate a matrix of donor communication strategies, including phone calls, texts, emails, mailed letters, and in-person visits.
  • Ensure that donors are properly acknowledged and thanked.
  • Respond promptly to donor inquiries.
  • Maintain accurate contact information for Unbound Now local office donors and prospects in Virtuous, using Virtuous for all record-keeping, including documenting interactions with donors and stewardship activities.
  • Plan and execute meaningful donor appreciation events.
  • Ensure appropriate, ongoing communication with donors, including use of Virtuous Marketing and automated workflows, in coordination with the Unbound Now Director of Communications and CRM Specialist.
  • Develop major gifts-related goal setting and fundraising plans and direct activities in support of these goals and objectives, coordinating with the local office Regional Director.
  • Develop and propose strategies for the solicitation of major gifts.
  • Help donors accomplish their philanthropic goals and ambitions through a relationship with Unbound Now's local office, developing individual gift strategy plans for major donors.
  • Build an annual pool of 20 or more prospective major gift donors to be solicited in the next 12-month period.
  • Manage an existing portfolio of foundation donors, working to match Unbound Now's local office’s needs with funding opportunities.
  • Develop a plan to build relationships with foundation representatives, understanding the critical role of relationships in working with foundations.
  • Identify additional foundations with a history or potential to support the Unbound Now local office.
  • Learn foundation grant cycles and track deadlines for applications and reports.
  • Develop a plan to solicit donations according to donors’ expressed requirements and timelines.
  • Write and submit letters of inquiry.
  • Develop compelling grant proposals in alignment with Unbound Now local office’s case for support and funding needs, community needs, and intended impact.
  • Meet all funder timelines and expectations.
  • Ensure timely and accurate reports to institutional funders.
  • Record/upload all letters of inquiry, proposals, funding requests, awards, and reports in Virtuous.
  • Collaborate internally with the local office Regional Director and the Unbound Now Finance Manager to ensure that gifts are expended in alignment with the foundation’s intent and restrictions.
  • Ensure appropriate recognition of funders.
  • Represent Unbound Now through speaking engagements that increase community awareness of human trafficking and the organization’s programs and services.
  • Proactively seek and secure speaking opportunities throughout the Central Texas region with civic groups, churches, schools, businesses, and community organizations.
  • Plan, coordinate, and execute educational Lunch & Learn presentations for community partners, businesses, and stakeholders.
  • Build and maintain relationships with community leaders and organizations to expand outreach and partnership opportunities.
  • Collaborate with program and development teams to ensure messaging is accurate, mission-centered, and aligned with strategic goals.
  • Track outreach activities, speaking engagements, and outcomes to measure community impact and inform future engagement strategy.
  • Travel to the Waco office is included when needed.
