About The Position

The Director of Development is responsible for planning, coordinating, directing, and implementing the fund development program, including short and long-term strategies for expanding TRU Care’s donor base and charitable gifts. The Director works in conjunction with the Executive Vice President and Board of Directors in assuring achievement of development goals.

Requirements

  • Must embrace the mission of TRU Community Care
  • Bachelor’s Degree required, Master’s preferred
  • Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) preferred, or required within one year of employment
  • Minimum 10+ years of experience in and knowledge of effective short and long-term fund development strategies
  • Minimum 5+ years of supervisory experience
  • Requires previous experience managing a successful capital campaign from start to finish
  • Knowledge of and demonstrated success with all aspects of fund development, including major gifts, grateful patient giving, capital campaign, planned giving, annual giving, grant writing, special events, constituent engagement, strategic goal-setting, and departmental management
  • Highly effective interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to build, foster, and maintain positive relationships with both internal and external constituencies
  • Excellent public speaking skills complemented by a demonstrated ability to interact in a social setting with ease and grace among individuals from a variety of diverse backgrounds and professions
  • Some regional travel required with a willingness to work evenings and weekends as needed

Responsibilities

  • Provides leadership and vision to establish and maintain short- and long-range goals for cultivation, stewardship, annual giving, capital campaign fundraising, and planned giving that will increase the culture of development/organizational buy-in across all constituencies of TRU.
  • Develops and executes a comprehensive, written annual fund development plan consisting of the best-practice components of annual giving, foundation/corporation giving, grants, special events, major gifts, and planned gifts.
  • Assists the EVP and Board of Directors with the evaluation of transitioning the Development Department to a subsidiary nonprofit Foundation model for fund development activities.
  • Directs all aspects of the development program, ensuring that revenue performance and expenses meet or exceed projected budgets. Contributes to the development and routine monitoring of the departmental budget.
  • Secures funds for TRU Community Care by refining and implementing a major gifts program, providing structure and framework for major giving initiatives, and building on previous donor development work.
  • Successfully and strategically manages a portfolio of significant donors and prospective donors aimed at securing major/planned gifts; orchestrating the work of staff and leadership to maximize key relationships for the long term.
  • Participate in each step of the donor pipeline, including identification, qualification through research, cultivation, solicitation, and prompt follow-up, stewardship, and recognition.
  • Monitors progress, oversees reporting, and provides leadership in executing moves management tasks for the development team and senior leadership.
  • Leads all aspects of signature fundraising and donor stewardship events throughout the year as approved by the EVP in the annual fundraising plan, including sponsorships.
  • Works directly with TRU Board of Directors to maximize relationships, enhance donor relations, and guide fundraising efforts.
  • Oversees development department staff assigned to develop grants strategies including grant research, proposal writing, and reporting requirements.
  • Creates and maintains gift recognition programs.
  • Serves actively as a member of the organization’s senior management/leadership team, working collaboratively on organizational initiatives and fundraising programs.
  • Understands and complies with all gift-related policies and procedures and ensures ethical compliance as defined by the Association for Fundraising Professionals.
  • Participates in the administrative call system.
  • Performs other duties as requested.
