About The Position

A mission-driven nonprofit organization focused on education and youth development is seeking a strategic and hands-on Director of Development to lead and grow a diversified fundraising program. This role oversees major gifts, institutional giving, and frontline fundraising while strengthening donor systems, stewardship practices, and revenue strategy. The Director of Development will serve as a key member of the leadership team and partner closely with the Executive Director, Board, and program leaders to advance long-term sustainability and impact.

Requirements

  • 7–10+ years of progressive nonprofit fundraising experience
  • Demonstrated success across: Major gifts Institutional giving (foundations/corporations/government) Frontline fundraising and donor relationship management
  • Experience in education, youth development, or mission-driven organizations strongly preferred
  • Strong donor-facing presence with excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and meet revenue goals
  • Proficiency with donor databases and fundraising systems, such as: Raiser’s Edge NXT Salesforce (Nonprofit Success Pack or Nonprofit Cloud) DonorPerfect or comparable CRM platforms
  • Strong working knowledge of fundraising metrics, reporting, and data analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive development strategy aligned with organizational goals and growth plans
  • Lead annual fundraising targets across individual giving, major gifts, institutional giving, and special initiatives
  • Track performance against goals and adjust strategy based on data and trends
  • Manage a portfolio of major gift prospects and donors, including cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship
  • Partner with executive leadership and board members on donor engagement and solicitation
  • Build and strengthen a frontline fundraising culture across the organization
  • Oversee foundation, corporate, and government funding strategy
  • Lead grant prospecting, proposal development, reporting, and relationship management
  • Align institutional funding priorities with program outcomes and organizational strategy
  • Design and implement donor stewardship and engagement strategies that build long-term relationships
  • Ensure timely acknowledgments, impact reporting, and donor communications
  • Collaborate with communications staff to align fundraising messaging with brand and mission
  • Ensure accurate tracking, reporting, and analysis of fundraising activity
  • Maintain and optimize donor database usage, including reporting and data integrity
  • Use data to inform strategy, forecasting, and decision-making
  • Manage and mentor development staff and consultants, as applicable
  • Work cross-functionally with program, finance, and communications teams
  • Support board development and fundraising engagement
