About The Position

In this role, you will be responsible for: Own the company’s data strategy and roadmap, aligned to business priorities Lead, mentor, and develop an existing team of data engineers Build and evolve the data platform, including ingestion pipelines, data models, and analytics foundations Define canonical data models, metrics, and shared business definitions Establish standards for data quality, reliability, and monitoring Partner with Product and Engineering to embed data into product and operational workflows Enable analytics and reporting for stakeholders across the business Define governance practices for data access, usage, and consistency Identify and mitigate data-related risk as scale and complexity increase At TopDog Law, everyone is expected to think critically, communicate clearly, and take ownership of their work. How This Role Drives the Business As Director, Data, you will lead the strategy and evolution of TopDog Law’s data platform. This role is responsible for building reliable, well-governed data infrastructure that enables analytics, reporting, and decision-making across marketing, intake, operations, legal, and leadership. You will define how data is ingested, modeled, and accessed across the organization, ensuring consistency, trust, and usability. You will lead and develop an existing team of data engineers while partnering closely with Product, Engineering, and business stakeholders to translate business questions into clear data structures and shared metrics. This is a hands-on leadership role that blends strategic direction with practical execution as the company continues to scale. Requirements

  • 8 or more years of experience in data engineering, analytics, or data platform roles
  • Experience leading and developing data engineering teams
  • Strong understanding of data modeling, ETL or ELT pipelines, and analytics systems
  • Proven ability to define metrics and shared data semantics in partnership with business stakeholders
  • Experience building reliable, scalable data systems in growing organizations
  • Ability to balance hands-on technical work with leadership and strategic thinking
  • Strong communication skills and comfort working across engineering, product, and business teams
  • Strong communication skills—written and verbal
  • Ability to think critically, prioritize effectively, and execute with speed
