About The Position

The Hollywood Reporter is seeking an innovative and experienced Director of Creative Social to play a key role in shaping the creative vision and execution of our video and social content strategy. This is a key position that blends storytelling and journalism with a deep understanding of social media strategy and audience growth, ensuring that THR’s digital platforms are optimized to drive traffic, engagement and influence. In highly dynamic role, you’ll merge stylized video production with platform-specific creativity to craft impactful, shareable content – whether capturing moments with an iPhone in the field, producing polished video interviews with a DSLR or creating campaigns tied to editorial series and breaking news moments. You’ll also manage social media strategy with the goal of promoting editorial covers, articles and breaking news, regularly resurfacing content to ensure ongoing engagement while amplifying traffic back to the site. This position requires agility to create content on a variety of timelines, both long- and short-term, as well as the ability to work effectively and creatively with high-profile talent. You will play a key role in elevating how the brand uses its platforms to tell compelling stories, engage audiences and drive brand presence across the industry and consumer markets.

Requirements

  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in video production and social media creative, with proven success in delivering impactful projects within the entertainment industry.
  • Creative Expertise: Exceptional ability to develop compelling visuals and storytelling, with a strong understanding of pacing, framing, and production techniques.
  • Production Expertise: Advanced skills in Adobe Premiere Pro, motion graphics (preferred), and capturing footage with DSLR/cinema cameras as well as iPhones for quick-turn field production.
  • Talent Proficiency: Experience working directly with high-profile talent, delivering professional and collaborative productions under dynamic conditions.
  • Industry Knowledge: Deep familiarity with the entertainment industry, including pop culture trends, audience behaviors, and competitive landscapes.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency with video production equipment, editing software (e.g., Adobe Premiere, Final Cut Pro), and graphic design tools. Experience with motion graphics or animation software is a plus.
  • Social Media Savvy: Strong understanding of social platforms, algorithms, and best practices, with expertise in tailoring content to different formats and audiences.
  • Leadership: Proven experience in managing, inspiring, and growing creative teams and external freelancers to deliver world-class content.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication abilities, ensuring alignment across internal teams and external partners.
  • Adaptability: Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, juggling multiple projects and deadlines with creativity and poise.

Responsibilities

  • Creative Leadership: Develop and oversee the creative direction for social media content, ensuring alignment with the brand’s vision and goals while pushing the boundaries of creativity and innovation, coordinating with editorial, digital, art and marketing teams to maximize impact across campaigns, including boosting key storytelling moments and news coverage.
  • Content Strategy: Collaborate with VP of Video and leadership teams to create and implement a strategic social plan that drives engagement, growth, and brand loyalty within the entertainment industry, elevating and promoting editorial articles, covers, breaking news and resurfaced content to ensure social platforms remain major drivers of traffic to THR.com.
  • Social Media Creative: Conceptualize and produce dynamic, platform-specific content for TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, Facebook, and other relevant platforms to maximize reach and engagement.
  • Trend Analysis: Stay ahead of emerging trends in video production, social media, and pop culture, leveraging insights to inspire new content formats that captivate audiences in the entertainment industry.
  • Partnerships & Collaboration: Coordinate with external agencies, freelancers, and other creative partners when necessary to extend production capabilities and elevate content quality.
  • Data-Driven Decision Making: Regularly review performance metrics of video and social content to optimize strategies, improve engagement, and ensure ROI.
  • Budget Management: Oversee the budget for video and social content production, making decisions that balance creativity and efficiency.
