We’re seeking a Director of Cost Accounting to lead and scale our manufacturing cost function in a regulated environment. This role owns standard costing, inventory valuation, revenue recognition, and government compliance while partnering with operations and program leadership to drive margin visibility, financial integrity, and audit readiness.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
  • 10+ years of hands-on manufacturing accounting experience with progressive responsibility
  • Strong knowledge of cost accounting, inventory/WIP accounting, and project/job costing
  • Demonstrated experience with manufacturing revenue recognition under ASC 606
  • Advanced Excel skills (financial modeling, complex analysis, pivot tables)
  • ERP experience in a manufacturing environment (SAP, Oracle, Costpoint, NetSuite, or similar)
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, regulated environment with tight deadlines
  • U.S. Citizen

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in defense, aerospace, or government contracting
  • Experience in complex or project-based manufacturing environments
  • Familiarity with FAR, DCAA audits, and government cost principles
  • CPA or CMA certification
  • Prior experience supporting audits in a regulated environment
  • 3+ years in a leadership or management capacity

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the manufacturing accounting subject matter expert, leading all aspects of cost accounting operations
  • Maintain and analyze standard cost systems, including labor, material, and overhead components
  • Own inventory accounting for raw materials, work-in-process, and finished goods; monitor and maintain accurate inventory valuation
  • Partner with operations teams on bills of material (BOMs), routings, and production cost drivers to ensure accurate cost flow
  • Lead revenue recognition for manufacturing and long-term projects in accordance with ASC 606
  • Support government contract accounting, including compliance with FAR and DCAA requirements
  • Drive budgeting, forecasting, and long-range planning activities
  • Support internal and external audits, including government audits and DCAA reviews
  • Document and continuously improve manufacturing accounting processes and internal controls
  • Mentor and develop junior accounting staff; provide technical guidance and review work
  • Prepare executive-level reporting and analysis on manufacturing costs, margins, and operational performance
