About The Position

The Director of Construction, under the general management and supervision of the Chief Operating Officer, has primary responsibility to manage the Construction Department and oversee both pre-construction and construction processes of all capital projects assigned. Must be an active Florida Certified General Contractor at time of application.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s of Science in Building Construction or comparable studies.
  • Minimum three years of experience as a construction project manager of remodeling projects, preferably in a health care residential setting
  • Experience in successfully managing relationships with employees, coworkers, contractors, subcontractors, and other outside vendors
  • Must have good organizational skills.
  • Must be a detail-oriented person and able to perform duties with great accuracy on a daily basis.
  • Must have excellent personal skills, demonstrating the ability to conduct oneself in a non-controversial style; a style that inspires the respect of others and promotes a sense of trust in the individual’s competence.
  • Must have good communication skills: speaking, writing, and listening.
  • Must be fluent in English.
  • Must have excellent computer skills.
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office programs with emphasis on Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Publisher, and Word, with the ability to learn and use proprietary software as required.
  • Must have a valid Florida Driver’s License
  • Must have a Florida Certified General Contractor or Building Contractor License.

  • Must be able to sit, stand, walk and move throughout the workday (lifting, carrying, bending, squatting, reaching, kneeling, pushing, pulling, twisting) using good body mechanics.
  • Must be able to lift/push up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to sit for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time.
  • Must be in good general health and demonstrate emotional stability and socially acceptable behavior in order to cope with the physical and emotional demands of the position.

Responsibilities

  • Manage Plymouth Harbor Team Members and outside vendors with regard to the successful completion of all projects assigned.
  • Coordinate projects, as needed, with the Director of Plant Operations and other departments.
  • Responsible for creating and managing the department’s operating budget and reporting variances monthly.
  • Assist the COO in developing the annual Capital Budget each year.
  • Responsible for creating and managing the budget for all unit remodels and assigned capital projects and reporting variances monthly.
  • Responsible for tracking the progress of all unit remodel and assigned capital projects and reporting variances monthly.
  • Responsible for interacting with prospective residents through the unit remodel process and resolving issues as they arise.
  • Manage design professionals in the preparation of construction documents.
  • Perform constructability reviews of construction documents.
  • Prepare project schedules and budgets during pre-construction phase.
  • Solicit and review bids for specific scopes of work and advise the COO on selections.
  • Preparation and management of the detailed project schedule with sequence and activity duration including procurement items.
  • Make periodic project inspections to confirm quality and adherence to the schedule.
  • Manage overall cost and quality of work performed.
  • Mentor and train other employees as necessary.
  • Maintain knowledge and understanding of the current State and City of Sarasota Building Codes.
  • Discharge properly such other responsibilities and duties as requested by the COO.
