About The Position

The Director of Corporate Environmental & Regulatory Compliance and Sustainability is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing an integrated compliance program that protects the organizations integrity, operational performance, and brand reputation. As a key strategic partner, the Director works cross-functionally with product development, operations, environmental health & safety, HR, legal, IT, marketing and senior leadership to proactively identify risks, implement controls, and embed compliance and sustainability into the business model. This position can be based in Memphis, TN or Omaha, NE.

  • Strong organizational, project management, analytical, and communication skills; ability to manage ambiguity and multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Capability to oversee compliance activities tied to acquisitions, including regulatory transitions and operational readiness.
  • Technological proficiency with Microsoft Office, chemical management systems, and relevant databases.
  • Ability to work effectively in remote, independent, and team-based environments.
  • Hybrid/Remote worker must have a reliable high-speed internet connection and a suitable remote workspace.
  • Bachelors degree in a technical, scientific, environmental, or regulatory-related field; advanced degree preferred depending on specialty.
  • 7+ years of experience in environmental compliance, product regulatory affairs, regulatory strategy, sustainability/ESG, or related compliance roles, including leadership and project responsibilities
  • Proven experience interacting with regulatory authorities and managing complex regulatory programs.
  • Experience with state and federal regulatory frameworks, including Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), including California Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986 (Prop 65) preferred
  • Understanding of ISO 14001 EMS requirements and environmental management systems highly desirable

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of an integrated environmental and regulatory compliance program aligned with strategic, regulatory, and sustainability objectives.
  • Ensure environmental and product regulatory strategies adapt effectively to changing requirements, proactively identifying risks and emerging issues while encouraging early reporting, open communication, and a learning-focused response.
  • Serve as a connector across technical and non-technical teams to build shared understanding of regulatory and environmental requirements, promoting psychological safety and enabling people to speak up about risks, challenges, and system gaps.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, learning, and continuous improvement by supporting teams with clear expectations, removing barriers to success, and reinforcing behaviors that strengthen compliance and organizational resilience.
  • Direct compliance-related communication, training, and awareness efforts that prioritize clarity, usability, and workforce empowerment, ensuring that people have the information and tools they need to perform work safely and compliantly.
  • Maintain monitoring systems for regulatory changes, compliance performance, and key risk indicators, ensuring timely evaluation and collaborative action while treating variability and weak signals as opportunities to learn and improve.
  • Lead root-cause evaluation and mitigation efforts that focus on understanding system drivers, not blame, and implement sustainable solutions that strengthen processes, tools, and decision-making.
  • Identify opportunities to simplify workflows, reduce operational burden, and improve reliability and efficiency across compliance processes, using employee feedback and operational insights to inform system improvements.
  • Ensure global product regulatory compliance including labeling, chemical regulations, hazard communication, SDS authoring, and related processes in alignment with applicable laws and standards (e.g., EPA, OSHA, CPSC, Prop 65).
  • Oversee development and execution of regulatory strategies that balance regulatory risk with commercial, operational, and strategic priorities.
  • Ensure end-to-end labeling processes, policies, and systems meet global business and regulatory requirements and align with the strategic direction of the organization.
  • Direct monitoring, interpretation, and implementation of new or evolving regulatory requirements; coordinate with internal stakeholders to ensure timely updates across product lines.
  • Oversee processes for maintaining required product registrations, licenses, certifications, and permits, ensuring accuracy and ongoing compliance .
  • Support cross-functional teams by interpreting regulatory requirements and ensuring product and labeling decisions remain compliant and operationally feasible.
  • Ensure processes exist for monitoring legislation, identifying regulatory changes, and implementing required updates across product lines.
  • Oversee development, implementation, and ongoing improvement of environmental compliance programs aligned with U.S. federal, state, and Canadian regulations, including EPR and other environmental/sustainability requirements.
  • Ensure the Environmental Management System (EMS) remains effective, continuously improved, and aligned with corporate environmental and sustainability objectives.
  • Lead the companys environmental advocacy efforts by representing the organization in regulatory and industry forums and maintaining strong relationships with agencies, NGOs, and stakeholders.
  • Monitor emerging environmental legislation and direct preparation of organizational responses such as position papers, comment letters, and engagement strategies.
  • Integrate environmental sustainability practicesincluding resource efficiency, waste reduction, and stewardshipinto business operations while ensuring alignment with compliance requirements and corporate sustainability goals.
  • Oversee environmental sustainability initiatives that improve environmental performance, collaborating with Legal when environmental insights or data support broader ESG reporting or disclosures.
  • Promote environmental stewardship through training, communication, and culture-building initiatives across the organization.
  • Provide environmental data, regulatory interpretation, and subject-matter guidance to Legal and cross-functional teams to support ESG-related disclosures, reporting, and external engagement, without owning the ESG program.
  • Provide enterprise-wide leadership for major regulatory and sustainability projects that require cross-functional coordination, regulatory interpretation, and organizational readiness.
  • Monitor and assess regulatory changes affecting manufacturing, distribution, labeling, transportation classifications, and VOC/CARB and related regulatory obligations; ensure timely updates and compliance actions.
  • Oversee regulatory change management, including action plans, compliance playbooks, change trackers, and stakeholder communication.
  • Lead large-scale regulatory projects involving Legal, Operations, Product Technology, Quality, IT, EHS, ESG, Sales, Marketing, Customer Support, and external consultants.
  • Manage regulatory integration for acquisitions and strategic initiatives, including Day-1 readiness under TSA/MSA obligations (e.g., SDS/label harmonization, documentation, testing, registrations).
  • Oversee harmonization and audit-readiness of SDS, labels, technical data sheets, and other regulatory documentation across brands and markets.
  • Direct audit and inspection preparedness related to regulatory obligations and contractual performance requirements.
  • Ensure regulatory workflows are embedded into enterprise tools, define KPIs for readiness, harmonization, and incident response, and promote continuous process and system improvements to enhance compliance efficiency and traceability.
