About The Position

The City of La Mesa is seeking a Community Services Director who will lead the Community Services Department, focusing on providing leisure, educational, and cultural activities. Requirements

  • Equivalent to a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in recreation administration, business administration, public administration, or a related field.
  • A Master's degree is highly desirable.
  • Seven years of increasingly responsible experience in community services programs, including three years in managing and supervising a comprehensive community services program.

Responsibilities

  • Assume full management responsibility for all Community Services Department services and activities.
  • Provide leadership in the implementation of Park Master Plans and develop new parks and facilities.
  • Manage the development and implementation of departmental goals, objectives, policies, and priorities.
  • Establish appropriate service and staffing levels and monitor service delivery efficiency.
  • Select, train, motivate, and evaluate assigned personnel; coordinate staff training and implement discipline procedures.
  • Manage the development and administration of the department budget, including approving expenditures and budgetary adjustments.
  • Plan, direct, and coordinate the Community Services Department's work plan and assign projects.
  • Oversee the operations of the non-profit Park and Recreation Foundation and raise funds for projects.
  • Represent the Community Services Department to other departments, elected officials, and the public.
  • Provide staff assistance to the City Manager and participate in various boards and committees.
  • Stay abreast of new trends and innovations in leisure, educational, and cultural services.
  • Respond to and resolve difficult and sensitive citizen inquiries and complaints.
