POSITION SUMMARY The Director of Community Living will support the CHS mission by planning, leading, directing, coordinating, developing, and growing Individualized Supported Living (ISL) programs and other residential services, for an assigned geographical area, ensuring the successful delivery of services to Individuals.

  • Bachelor’s degree (BA or BS) plus six years of relevant experience, or combination of education and experience equal to ten years
  • Managerial and Supervisory experience in a professional environment required
  • Experience working in the field of intellectual or developmental disabilities required
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Reliable, licensed, and insured vehicle
  • Reliable form of communications
  • Lift, carry, squat, bend, move, push, or pull, sit, or stand for long intermittent periods
  • Type on a keyboard for long periods
  • Vision sufficient to view computer screens for extended periods of time
  • Ability to drive distances of 200+ miles regularly

Responsibilities

  • Affirm the success of departmental staff by managing all aspects of supervision, including but not limited to; hiring, training, mentoring, time and attendance, evaluation, and professional development; inspiring a collaborative, and positive work culture; modeling, and assuring coverage to achieve departmental goals; supporting and strengthening workplace inclusion, diversity, equity and accessibility; encouraging and empowering staff to address problems promptly and creatively, knowing when to seek guidance; and creating, reviewing and revising policies and procedures to ensure they are current, relevant, and aligned with federal and state laws, rules and regulations, as well as CHS’s mission and core values.
  • Support Individuals in reaching their goals by leading, supporting and mentoring Assistant Directors and Professional Managers (PMs); training staff to excellence; implementing Tiered Supports and Missouri Quality Outcomes in the day-to-day operations of all programs; utilizing available technologies in services; solving problems and making decisions with discernment on issues involving Guardians, Individuals and/or the staff who support them; and creating a stable leadership and workforce who are equipped and prepared to accomplish organizational goals and meet Individuals’ needs.
  • Advance interdepartmental harmony by promoting positive and productive lateral, and interdepartmental communications; participating in the Leadership Management Team; serving in CHS committees on issues of departmental relevance or personal interest; and attending cross-departmental meetings for the purpose of collaboration and consultation, and to identify departmental needs for service (IT, Maintenance, HR, etc.), as well as to strengthen interdepartmental processes, and lead positive change.
  • Ensure the financial and overall health of the Community Living department by preparing annual budgets; reviewing financial reports, activities, costs, operations and data; tracking, charting and analyzing data for productive use and quality improvement; maintaining knowledge of laws, rules, regulations, policies, directives and best practices which apply to programs within the Community Living department; ensuring departmental goals are met through community interaction and integration; incorporating CARF standards, Medicaid Waiver, MH and Home and Community Based Services (HCBS) regulations into the day-to-day operations of all departmental programs, managing and maintaining internal quality assurance processes for regulatory compliance; workforce planning; developing and maintaining expertise in programs; designing training requirements in collaboration with the AVP of Community and Employment Services and HR; and ensuring all facets of departmental operations are progressive to foreseeable future standards and guided by CHS’ strategic plan, best practices, and mission.
  • Increase CHS reach, expansion and growth opportunities by increasing the number of Community Living programs and the number of individuals served in them; actively seeking expansion and growth opportunities; participating in community organizations, professional associations, advocacy groups, and task forces for opportunities to assess state and community needs and identify service opportunities; and championing CHS to families, funding sources, and communities.
