About The Position

The Director of Communications at Breck School is responsible for overseeing all internal and external communications, brand management, publications, and marketing efforts. This role requires a strategic thinker who is passionate about education and committed to the school's mission and values. The Director will lead a team and ensure that all constituencies are informed, engaged, and supportive of the school's initiatives. The position involves both strategic planning and tactical execution, making it essential for the Director to be adept at crafting messages and identifying opportunities for the school's success.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • At least seven years of professional experience in communications, marketing, or public relations, ideally within an educational or nonprofit setting.
  • Strong strategic and creative skills with demonstrated success in brand management, marketing, and content creation.
  • Proven experience in leading a communications team, managing multiple projects, and achieving measurable results.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to connect effectively with diverse constituencies.
  • Commitment to Breck's mission and values, including fostering an inclusive and collaborative school environment.
  • High level of discretion and sensitivity to confidential information.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and oversee a comprehensive communications and marketing strategy that reflects Breck's mission, values, and strategic priorities.
  • Ensure consistent brand messaging and cohesive visual identity across all communication channels, including print, digital, and social media.
  • Collaborate with the Head of School and senior leaders on key message development, speech writing, and public statements.
  • Manage crisis communications and serve as the school's primary media contact in partnership with the Chief Advancement Officer.
  • Oversee the production of school-wide publications, including magazines, newsletters, and annual reports.
  • Direct the school's digital presence, managing content for the website and coordinating social media efforts.
  • Produce engaging multimedia content, including photography and videography.
  • Partner with the Admissions Office to create and implement targeted marketing campaigns.
  • Analyze admissions trends and competitor marketing efforts to adjust strategies and drive enrollment.
  • Support the Advancement team's fundraising efforts by developing communication strategies that engage alumni and donors.
  • Lead, mentor, and manage the Communications and Marketing team, ensuring clear roles and responsibilities.
  • Oversee the department's budget and assess the effectiveness of marketing and communication initiatives.
