Promotes exemplary nursing informatics practice that is evidence-based and is informed by nursing practice and clinical informatics standards. The incumbent collaborates with other MedStar System Clinical Nursing Informatics and Information System leaders in providing leadership in the organization's ongoing assessment, evaluation, planning, development, implementation, education and performance improvement for clinical information system processes, clinical workflows, and integration for the Department of Nursing for the entity(ies), and the MSH system. The Multisite Director incorporates the organization's strategic objectives for patient care in the management and evaluation of MSH clinical information systems and point of care clinical technologies and directs the management of clinical systems to meet the standards of the entity(ies) and health system. The incumbent will utilize their knowledge and skills of clinical practice to determine clinical functions that are suitable for computer application and to ensure that Clinical Information Systems are consistent with professional standards of clinical practice, including the Joint Commission and other related standards and regulatory requirements. The Multisite Director works across Medstar clinical information system platforms to ensure patient safety and quality of patient care through on-line documentation, integration, data analytics, and improved workflow efficiencies.   • Responsible for identifying the needs of the Clinical System for education, training, programs and services in computer skills and competencies in the use of electronic tools for patient care, quality management, utilization management, clinical resource management, and performance improvement initiatives.
  • Provides local oversight for the adoption and sustained integration of the MedStar Health IS Clinical Roadmap.
  • Provides oversight for the sustained integration of the entity(ies) Nursing Informatics Council(s) and incorporates locally the recommendations of MSH Collaborative Governance Councils and Nursing Specialty Committees.
  • Conducts ongoing technology assessment of clinical information systems and products, related to identifying and meeting patient needs, Clinical System programs, and potential system sponsored external collaborations.
  • Responsible for the entity(ies) Department of Nursing's role in the overall planning, development, and implementation of health care informatics programs, products and services, as guided by MSH system initiatives and goals.
  • Responsible for assessing training and development needs of clinical staff in relation to adoption of clinical systems and services.
  • Provides expert support to other entities and departments in the adoption of clinical information systems, products and services responsive to current and future needs.
  • Tracks and advises on industry standards influencing informatics support for clinical needs.
  • Primary liaison between entity(ies) and MedStar Nursing Informatics and IS Projects to advance enterprise projects and initiatives.
  • Assists in developing MSH system product specifications including the application and functionality of software programs, software vendor requests for proposals, and evaluation of vendor's work.
  • Assists in monitoring vendor's adherence to specifications, quality and effectiveness of vendor support.
  • Responsible for assessment of needs and implementation of strategies to link educational products, including practice guidelines, to practice-based electronic medical records systems.
  • Serves on IS Steering Committees and other committees as designated.
  • Responsible for input on budget and staffing for implementation and support of clinical IS applications.
  • Uses clinical knowledge, informatics knowledge, practice experience, research background, critical thinking, to promote quality patient care.
  • Coordinates processing and follow-up of requests for enhancement and changes from users or others affected by the system.
  • Acts as a liaison to departments and interdisciplinary groups within the entity(ies) as related to clinical systems.
  • Provides Clinical Informatics leadership to Nursing and IS to identify, develop, implement and maintain efficient and effective clinical information systems.
  • Participates and/or leads entity and system level clinical informatics-related committees or councils.
  • Provides clinical leadership through role modeling professional practice behaviors and maintaining role accountabilities at the level of the staff.

  • Prepares/synthesizes operational, planning, management, and analytics status reports for administration and stakeholders.
  • Master's degree in Nursing Informatics, Informatics, Computer Science required or acceptable equivalent is required from a nationally accredited program.
  • A Doctor of Nursing Practice degree preferred.
  • Advanced Nursing Informatics degree/certificate from an accredited program preferred.
  • 5-7 years progressively more responsible job-related experience, including at least 2 years of leadership and/or managerial experience.
  • Experience with implementation of clinical systems and/or project management of clinical systems preferred.
  • Licensed as a registered nurse in the entity's(ies) locale.
  • National informatics or nursing informatics certification preferred and required within one year of assuming this role.
  • This position has a hiring range of $142,064 - $287,996.
