The Director of Clinical Education and Professional Development at Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) plays a pivotal role in overseeing the development and implementation of training programs aimed at promoting clinical practice standards. This leadership position is integral to ensuring that educational initiatives align with the mission of VUMC, which is to advance health and wellness through exceptional patient care, education, and research. The Director will be responsible for developing, implementing, evaluating, and revising programs related to orientation, in-service training, and continuing education for clinical staff. This role requires a strong focus on quality patient care and customer satisfaction, acting as a resource and liaison to the VUMC community by participating in hospital-wide committees and task forces. The Director will represent Vanderbilt within the professional community and provide leadership to ensure safe, patient-centered care through strategic organizational strategies and evidence-based practices. In this role, the Director will collaborate with the central clinical education department on enterprise-wide initiatives and work closely with senior clinical and administrative staff to establish the mission, strategic plans, budgets, resource allocation, operational plans, and policies for the Clinical Enterprise. The Director will also be responsible for recognizing and rewarding desired performance, supporting staff retention, and fostering an environment of trust and communication. This position requires active listening and clear communication, ensuring that organizational information is effectively disseminated to staff and leaders. The Director will leverage performance development processes to achieve goals, evaluate direct reports, and coordinate learning needs assessments. They will partner with leadership to execute patient safety and quality outcome goals, acting as a consultant to promote agreed-upon Patient Care Standards. The role also involves implementing programs that promote a safe and customer-friendly environment, providing education on clinical standards, and ensuring compliance with relevant regulations. The Director will be involved in developing and retaining top talent, planning and implementing orientation programs, and creating a culture that promotes lifelong learning and development. Additionally, the Director will participate in the recruitment process for new staff, build effective working relationships, manage conflict, and provide financial oversight for the department's budget. This position requires strong prioritization and time management skills, as well as the ability to lead and innovate in addressing complex issues within the clinical education framework.
