About The Position

Provide leadership and oversight for the Child Nutrition Program at Raul Yzaguirre Schools for Success AND Dinner Program. Ensure all campuses deliver nutritious, appealing meals that meet federal, state, and local requirements. Promote healthy eating habits among students and staff, maintain compliance with USDA and Texas Department of Agriculture guidelines, and uphold a safe, sanitary, and customer-focused environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent educational experience with an academic major in food and nutrition, dietetics, home and consumer sciences, food service management, nutrition education, culinary arts, business, or a related field.
  • Eight hours of food safety training (completed within five years prior to start date or within 30 days of hire).
  • Clear and valid Texas driver's license.
  • Knowledge of menu planning, food purchasing, and preparation in a school food service environment.
  • Ability to conduct on-site inspections across multiple campuses.
  • Strong budget management and personnel leadership skills.
  • Ability to implement policy and procedures and interpret compliance data.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in school nutrition program management.

Responsibilities

  • Direct and manage RYSS Child Nutrition programs across all campuses.
  • Develop menus that meet USDA and Texas Department of Agriculture nutritional standards.
  • Collaborate with campus principals to coordinate meal schedules and resolve staffing issues.
  • Oversee free and reduced-price meal application processes and ensure compliance with federal reimbursement guidelines.
  • Maintain written procedures for all food service operations.
  • Develop and manage department budget; ensure cost-effective operations.
  • Implement efficient food procurement and inventory systems in compliance with federal and state standards.
  • Evaluate bids and recommend contracts for board approval.
  • Approve invoices and purchase orders for Child Nutrition Services.
  • Maintain inventory control and recommend equipment replacement as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with federal/state laws, TEA regulations, and RYSS board policies.
  • Prepare and submit required reports and maintain accurate records.
  • Oversee payroll data accuracy for Child Nutrition staff.
  • Complete annual continuing education requirements per USDA guidelines.
  • Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate Child Nutrition staff; recommend assignments and disciplinary actions.
  • Develop training programs to ensure exemplary service and compliance.
  • Implement measures to safeguard food, supplies, and equipment.
  • Maintain safety standards per federal, state, and insurance regulations.
  • Conduct training on safe food handling and workplace safety.
