About The Position

The Director of Child Nutrition develops and directs school meal programs within the guidelines established by federal, state and local school laws.

Requirements

  • Problem-Solving: Strong analytical skills with a knack for identifying challenges and implementing innovative solutions in partnership with community partners.

  • Educational Requirements: Bachelor's degree in Food Service Management, Food and Nutrition or Dietetics.
  • Skills and Knowledge: Ability to oversee the district-wide food-service operations. Responsibilities include planning, administering, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating all aspects of the School Nutrition program to ensure that school meals are nutritious, age appropriate, appealing, and cost effective.
  • Experience: Three years of experience in food-service management
  • Certifications/Memberships: School Nutrition Specialist Credential or Registered Dietitian; Certified Food handler; active member of the National School Nutrition Association; Indiana School Nutrition Association;
  • At least 8 hours of food safety training within 5 years prior to the start date, or completed within 30 calendar days of the starting date.
  • Must obtain food safety certification every 5 years.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates all activities relating to the provision of child nutrition programs to students and school personnel.
  • Establishes policies and procedures of cafeteria operation with the assistance of kitchen supervisors, building principals, and the Director of Operations.
  • Supervises the handling of all food service receipts in accordance with procedures outlined by the central accounting office.
  • Makes frequent visits to school cafeterias for purposes of guidance and evaluation.
  • Develops programs about nutrition and the school food service program and presents these programs in the classroom at faculty request.
  • Attends and participates in School Board Meetings regarding food service programs.
