About The Position

The Director of Campus Planning and Development at California State University, Monterey Bay is responsible for overseeing campus planning, environmental compliance, design, construction, space planning, and inspection services. This leadership role involves managing a team, developing strategic plans for capital projects, and ensuring compliance with relevant regulations while fostering stakeholder engagement and collaboration.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field such as planning, design, construction, engineering, or architecture.
  • Five years of work experience in capital projects, with at least three years in a leadership or supervisory role.
  • Thorough knowledge of planning, design, and construction processes.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced degree in urban planning, environmental planning, architecture, engineering, or construction management.
  • Technical fluency with Oracle/PeopleSoft, CSU Common Management System, Microsoft Office, and Google applications.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and mentor planning, design, and construction team staff.
  • Direct the development of short- and long-term planning and annual submission of the University's Capital Outlay Program.
  • Manage stakeholder engagement and development of project scopes.
  • Oversee the development of project feasibility studies and resulting projects into the Capital Improvement Plan (CIP).
  • Ensure compliance with California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA).
  • Oversee architectural and engineering consultant contract scope of work and ensure consistency with campus plans.
  • Manage the preparation of Request for Qualifications (RFQ) and Request for Proposal (RFP) for consultants and design professionals.
  • Provide input on budget development for the Planning, Design, and Construction functional areas.
