About The Position

Under the direction of the Dean of Student Services or designated administrator, the Director of Campus Life provides strategic leadership, direction, and oversight for campus life programs that foster student engagement, leadership development, and co-curricular learning. The position ensures programs align with the mission of Modesto Junior College and meet the diverse needs of students through equity-minded practices. The Director of Campus Life is the advisor to Associated Students (ASMJC), plans, oversees, and manages the administrative activities and operations pertaining to the Associated Students, including budget management, all pertinent administrative and classified personnel actions.

Requirements

  • Education: Possession of a Bachelor's Degree in Education, Counseling, Psychology, or Leadership, Social/Behavioral sciences or closely related field. Master's preferred.
  • Experience: One year of successful administrative experience, preferred at the community college level, and three to four years of professional experience in student affairs, student activities, counseling, leadership development, or a related field.
  • Effective instructional, student development and instructional support practices at the community college.
  • Current issues related to student services, instruction and articulation for the success of all students.
  • Sensitivity to and interest in the critical role of student support service to the success of community college students, faculty, and staff.
  • Understanding of and commitment to shared governance.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills.
  • High degree of professionalism and integrity.
  • Efficient administrative practices through an integrated approach to planning, budgeting, and scheduling
  • Understanding of good pedagogical practices for adult learners.
  • Work in a collaborative manner as a team member in division, college and district-wide activities and projects.

  • Develop effective educational, student support services and student development programs to meet the needs of the College.
  • Manipulate relevant technology to access, analyze and report relevant data and other programmatic information.
  • Effective budget management practices, with special emphasis on categorically funded programs.
  • Collaborate with others to strengthen intra-College, community, and District-wide staff relations.
  • Support staff development, achieve hiring success, enhance evaluation, recognize and mitigate personnel issues, and resolves conflicts.
  • Develop and nurture an effective student/learner center environment.
  • Demonstrate experience working with student services programs at the college or university level
  • Possession of valid California Motor Vehicle Operator's License.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and oversight for assigned programs including Associated Students of Modesto Junior College (ASMJC), Campus Clubs, Project LEAD, Project GIVE, and other campus life initiatives.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive Campus Life program that includes student government (ASMJC), Inter-Club Council, student clubs/organizations, student engagement initiatives, and co-curricular programs.
  • Plan, coordinate, and assess student activities, events, and leadership development opportunities.
  • Oversee student government budgets, serve as liaison between student government and college administration/faculty/staff, attend senate meetings, and mentor student leaders.
  • Provide leadership for the TouchNet OneCard initiative, with primary responsibility for the Mobile 360u Student ID system, ensuring integration with campus services, vendor compliance, and enhanced student access.
  • Provide oversight of the general operations of the Student Center and Mary Stuart Rogers Building, ensuring effective use, scheduling, and student-centered services.
  • Develop, monitor, and manage departmental budgets, plans, records, and compliance with local, state, and federal regulations related to student services.
  • Collect, analyze, and maintain data on campus life programs to inform planning and reporting.
  • Foster an inclusive campus environment that promotes belonging, equity, and active student learning beyond the classroom.
  • Plan, coordinate, and evaluate signature campus events, including but not limited to: Westfest, Welcome Day, Women's Empowerment Luncheon, and MJC Commencement,
  • Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of this role.
