About The Position

The Director of Campus Engagement provides strategic leadership for new student orientation, campus engagement, and leadership initiatives that directly support student belonging and overall success at Bethel University. This role is central to creating early and sustained connections that help students feel known, supported, and engaged within Bethel’s Christ-centered community. Working collaboratively with the Student Life team, the Director designs, implements, and assesses orientation and engagement programs that influence key student success outcomes, including first-year retention, student involvement, leadership development, and timely progression toward degree completion. The position uses assessment data, student feedback, and collaboration with campus partners to continuously improve programs and services that support students’ academic, social, spiritual, and personal development. As a member of the Student Life leadership team, this role shares responsibility for student care, mentoring, and conduct processes, serving as a trusted resource for students navigating personal and educational challenges that may impact persistence. The Director participates in the student care and concerns process, serves in a-on-call rotation, and collaborates with Admissions, Residence Life, and other campus partners to ensure coordinated, proactive support for students during key transition points. Through supervision of staff and student leaders, advising of student organizations, and leadership of civic engagement and leadership initiatives, the Director fosters meaningful involvement opportunities that contribute to students’ sense of belonging, purpose, and vocational discernment. This role is expected to model Bethel’s mission and values, actively support the University’s Community Covenant, and contribute to a thriving, Christ-centered campus culture where students are equipped to flourish and lead lives of impact. The starting salary range for this position is $60,000 to $66,000 annually. This position requires U.S. work authorization; sponsorship is not available.

Requirements

Working knowledge of and ability to apply student development theory.
Must be an effective leader.
Must be organized.
Proven ability to manage and supervise student staff.
Proven effective interpersonal skills and effective communicator.
Ability to work with a diverse student population in a variety of settings.
Ability to work in a professional and confidential manner with all staff, students, parents, and other constituents.
Ability to travel locally and regionally, as needed.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google Suites.
Ability to manage a budget.
Willingness to obtain technical training for the use of early alert software programs.
Experience 3+ years of experience in a related field.
Previous leadership experience.
Previous vocational ministry experience.
Bachelor’s degree in a related field.

5+ years of experience in a related field.
Previous experience with new student orientation, student government and judicial processes.

Responsibilities

Direct planning, development, budgeting, implementation, and assessment of new student orientation programs.
Coordinate with appropriate University departments to implement orientation programs and services for all constituencies.
Provide training, oversight, and mentoring for the student leadership team and student leaders.
Coordinate and collaborate with Admissions on the planning and implementation of Summer Orientation and Preview Days.
Share responsibilities with Student Life directors/deans for student discipline, mentoring, and support related to personal and educational concerns.
Participate in the student care and concerns process.
Serve in an on-call capacity every 4-6 weeks.
Assist with student study abroad approvals, stop-outs/withdrawals, and general director meetings.
Assist in oversight of student organizations and attend key campus events.
Supervise department staff who work in the areas of student activities and campus engagement.
Lead University efforts for voting, state grant, and student civic engagement.
Lead and coordinate Bethel leadership initiatives, including retreats and early-year programming.
Collaborate with Residence Life to integrate engagement and residence life activities and initiatives.
Lead, mentor, and develop team of direct reports.
May co-advise the Clarion campus newspaper or work with staff to do so administratively and budgetarily.
Serve as the supervisor of record for all students receiving Clarion stipends.
Work alongside the Clarion Business and Advertising Manager to make connections with local businesses for advertising to manage the Clarion budget.
