About The Position

The University of Saint Mary is seeking a dynamic individual to provide oversight to the Campus Counseling office, staff and activities that support our students’ mental health and wellness. This position will also provide a range of counseling services to students as well as provide consultation to faculty and staff concerned about the well-being of USM students. The Director of Campus Counseling Services will oversee the daily operations of the Campus Counseling Services office, may serve on the campus CARE Team and in conjunction with the Campus Counselor provides regular outreach to the campus community in the form of workshops, guest lectures and other wellness events at the university level. This position is also responsible for individual student support in relation to career exploration and resources. This position is a full-time, 12-month position.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in counseling or clinical psychology required.
  • Current KS Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor.
  • A minimum of 5 years related supervisory and administrative experience.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal; strong organizational skills; the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Provides leadership and vision for the Campus Counseling Services office.
  • Develops and maintains Campus Counseling Services policies, procedures, and protocols in compliance with state/federal requirements, University policies and mission.
  • Maintains and oversees department budget, expenditures, revenue, and contracts.
  • Supervises, manages, and evaluates professional counseling staff and interns.
  • Collects, assesses, and reports on Campus Counseling Services utilization rates, effectiveness, and programming outcomes to Vice President of Student Life.
  • Ensures compliance with Family Educational Rights and Privacy (FERPA), Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA), and other federal/state requirements for counseling records by supervising the maintenance, security, and proper disclosure of such records.
  • Remains competent and current through self-directed professional reading, trainings, and conferences to increase awareness of treatments, managing of services, and development of techniques to support successful counseling strategies for students.
  • Provides professional counseling services (individual, group), including intake, treatment planning, case management, crisis intervention, and consultation to enrolled students.
  • Meet with students and coordinate student transitions from university services to off-campus referrals/resources as appropriate for the level of treatment required.
  • Assists campus administration with providing an appropriate and coordinated response from the University regarding personal and campus emergencies involving students.
  • Communicate with staff, parents, families or designated emergency contacts regarding emergencies including hospitalizations and other crises to help facilitate success on campus, or transition back to campus when issues are appropriately resolved for care.
  • Develops and maintains partnership with USM Academic Affairs and other universities for internships and practicum opportunities.
  • Develop and maintain a database of community resources that can be utilized by mental health clinicians, physicians as well as campus partners seeking referrals, and may serve on community organizations as a representative of the USM mental health services.
  • Maintain complete, accurate, timely case notes.
  • Serve on interdepartmental case management and committee meetings as assigned by supervisor.
  • Provides consultation, training, workshops, presentations, and outreach programs to the campus community related to mental health issues and trends, psychological and behavioral management techniques, and department services.
  • Assist in student orientation, parent orientation, student leader trainings and other events as requested.
  • Consult regularly with assigned key campus partners regarding services, access, and care for students.
  • Build and maintain collaborative relationships with faculty, staff, and community providers.
  • Coordinate specialty services on campus for student groups who would benefit from group programs.
  • Maintain a high level of visibility on campus by attending various events to build relationships with students, faculty and staff and be accessible after hours in the event of an emergency.
