H.A.R.D. operates a large summer camp program at East Avenue Park in Hayward that includes Camp Potowatomi, Camp Tenderfoot, and the Vida Nueva Teen Leadership Camp. We are seeking three Director of Camps with experience to lead a team of head counselors, counselors, and program aides. The primary responsibilities of this position are creating and leading activities, ordering and managing camp supplies, managing field trips, providing day-to-day directions to staff, and providing excellent customer service to parents and caregivers. The ideal candidate will have strong organizational and leadership skills. Previous experience at the East Avenue Camp program is a huge plus! Training will be provided. This is a seasonal, Summer-time position. Working hours will initially be on an as-needed basis to prepare for the Summer. Once Summer starts in June, you may be working up to 40 hours per week until August 2026. Here are the details about the positions: Available Positions: 3 Hourly Rate: $29.06/hour - $39.22/hour Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8 hours/day, 40 hours/week Typical Work hours: Mornings/Afternoons with Evenings as needed Part-Time, Seasonal, Hourly, Non-Exempt Position Work Location: East Avenue Park Anticipated Start Date: March 16, 2026 Duration: Summer season will run from March 16 to September 4 Not to exceed 960 hours per fiscal year. POSITION SUMMARY Under general supervision, is responsible for coordination and supervision of staff and volunteers to ensure age-appropriate curriculum and activities are met related to the daily operation of a District program in order to ensure the safety and well-being of participants and perform related work as required. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS Incumbents in this class are primarily responsible for day-to-day operations of camp, conducting and analyzing assessment surveys, and is responsible for assisting in managing budgets. This class can be distinguished from the class of Head Counselor because incumbents in this class are responsible for the overall direction and staffing of the recreation program.
