About The Position

Charity Search Group is a national executive search firm serving nonprofits and higher education institutions exclusively. We partner with mission-driven organizations to recruit fundraising leaders, development professionals, and senior executives—roles where trust, judgment, and long-term fit are essential. Our work supports organizations across the U.S. and Canada, helping boards and leadership teams reduce hiring risk, strengthen organizational capacity, and build leadership aligned with mission and values. The Director of Business Development is responsible for generating and growing new client relationships for Charity Search Group through a combination of trusted relationships, modern outbound outreach, and consultative engagement. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, this role focuses on opportunity development—not transactional sales. The Director will engage Executive Directors, CEOs, Board members, and senior development leaders in thoughtful conversations about leadership hiring needs, organizational risk, and long-term talent strategy. This is a part-time, senior-level role well suited for someone with deep nonprofit fluency who understands how nonprofit leaders make decisions and values credibility, discretion, and relationship-building over volume-driven sales.

Requirements

  • Background in fundraising, development, nonprofit leadership, executive search, or a closely related field
  • Demonstrated ability to build trusted relationships with nonprofit executives, board members, and senior advancement leaders
  • Strong understanding of nonprofit governance, fundraising structures, and leadership decision-making
  • Experience generating opportunities through professional networks, referrals, and/or targeted outreach
  • Comfort engaging in consultative conversations about leadership hiring, organizational capacity, and risk
  • Familiarity with CRM-based outreach tools (email and LinkedIn), including sequencing and personalization, or a strong willingness to learn
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to build credibility, listen effectively, and guide strategic discussions
  • Highly self-directed and organized, with the ability to manage pipeline activity in a remote, part-time role

Responsibilities

  • Relationship Development & Market Presence Build and deepen relationships with nonprofit executives, board leaders, and senior development professionals Leverage existing networks and referral channels while expanding reach into new nonprofit audiences
  • Consultative Business Development Lead high-trust conversations around executive and fundraising leadership needs Advise nonprofit leaders on hiring strategy, organizational readiness, and risk mitigation
  • Modern Outreach & Pipeline Growth Combine relationship-based development with thoughtful, CRM-driven outreach (email and LinkedIn) Use data, research, and AI-assisted personalization to support targeted, human-centered outreach
  • Pipeline Ownership & Revenue Generation Own the full business development lifecycle—from initial conversation through signed engagement Build and manage a sustainable pipeline aligned with firm growth goals
  • Brand Alignment & Collaboration Represent Charity Search Group’s values, reputation, and approach in all external interactions Collaborate closely with internal search consultants and leadership to ensure a strong handoff and client experience
