About The Position

The Director, Broadcasting delivers live, high-energy, play-by-play radio broadcasts for the Murray State University, bringing to life for radio listeners with vivid play-by-play commentary, engaging analysis, and seamless integration of scores, stats, and stories.

Requirements

  • 6+ years experience in sports broadcasting, preferably play-by-play on radio (college, minor league, or pro).
  • Expert-level understanding of [e.g., football/basketball/baseball] rules, strategies, and history.
  • Proficient with radio equipment, audio production software, and live remote broadcasting.
  • Clear, energetic, authoritative voice with impeccable timing and pronunciation.
  • Multi-Sport Versatility: Experience calling multiple sports (e.g., football, basketball, baseball).

Nice To Haves

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Broadcasting, Journalism, Communications, or related field.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver live radio Play-by-Play: Provide real-time, detailed descriptions of game action, player performances, scores, and momentum shifts to paint a vivid picture for radio audiences.
  • Pre- and Post-Game Shows: Host engaging pre-game previews, halftime updates, and post-game recaps, including interviews with players, coaches, and fans.
  • Research and Preparation: Study rosters, stats, team histories, and game strategies; create spotting charts and notes for seamless broadcasts.
  • Collaborate with Color Commentary: Work alongside analysts to enhance broadcasts with insights, anecdotes, and expert analysis.
  • Content Creation: Produce highlights, podcasts, and social media clips; may assist with sports news updates or station promos.
  • Travel and Flexibility: Broadcast on-site at games (nights, weekends, holidays); handle remote setups when needed.
  • Community Engagement: Represent the network at events, promotions, and sponsor activations.
  • Other related duties a assigned.
