About The Position

Jericho Road Community Health Center is actively seeking a Director of Behavioral Health. The Director provides strategic, clinical, and operational leadership for the Behavioral Health Department. This leader oversees integrated behavioral health services across primary care, ensures high-quality and patient-centered care, supervises clinical staff, and advances programs that address mental health and substance use needs in the community. The Director collaborates closely with medical, dental, care management, and administrative leaders to support whole-person, team-based care. Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or related field required; doctoral degree or clinical licensure preferred.
  • Active clinical license (LCSW, Psychologist, LMHC, or similar); ability to supervise licensed and unlicensed staff.
  • Minimum 5–7 years of behavioral health experience, including supervisory or leadership roles.
  • Knowledge of FQHC operations, HRSA requirements, trauma-informed care, and value-based care models.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and manage change effectively.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in integrated care, community health, or underserved populations strongly preferred.
  • Candidates with FQHC experience strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide overall direction and strategic planning for behavioral health services, including integrated care, outpatient therapy, psychiatry, care coordination, and SUD services (as applicable).
  • Lead program development aligned with organizational goals, community needs, and HRSA requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations, including Article 28, and HRSA behavioral health standards.
  • Develop and monitor department budgets, productivity targets, and quality metrics.
  • Play an active role in department budgeting and forecasting, to include regularly meeting with and reviewing revenue per visit and provider productivity data.
  • Ensuring all department providers understand their productivity goals and are regularly reviewing progress; director is responsible for addressing productivity.
  • Regularly interface and collaborate with other department leaders, specifically the CMO, to determine how to best integrate care and promote BH referrals across the organization.
  • Oversee clinical standards and ensure adherence to evidence-based practices.
  • Provide clinical supervision to behavioral health clinicians (LCSWs, LMSWs, Psychologists, CASACs, psychiatrists, LMHCs, etc.).
  • Serve as a resource for complex cases, crisis intervention protocols, and care coordination.
  • Support integrated models of care with primary care providers, including warm handoffs, SBIRT, and collaborative care workflows.
  • Manage day-to-day operations of behavioral health services across sites.
  • Ensure appropriate staffing, scheduling, productivity, and patient flow.
  • Regularly review and ensure schedules are optimized and meeting patient needs.
  • Optimize documentation practices, coding compliance, and use of the EHR.
  • Oversee referrals, waitlists, and timely access to care.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives focused on quality, efficiency, and patient experience.
  • Recruit, onboard, and retain talented behavioral health staff.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and develop professional growth plans.
  • Foster a trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and team-based environment.
  • Promote cross-disciplinary training and collaboration with medical providers.
  • Monitor clinical outcomes, UDS measures, behavioral health-related QI metrics, and patient satisfaction.
  • Ensure compliance with documentation and billing regulations (Medicaid, Medicare, commercial).
  • Maintain policies and procedures consistent with HRSA, NCQA (if PCMH), and state regulations.
  • Lead audits, chart reviews, and corrective action plans as needed.
  • Represent the organization in community behavioral health networks, coalitions, and partner meetings.
  • Develop referral pathways with hospitals, social services, crisis services, and community-based organizations.
  • Support grant applications and reporting related to behavioral health programs.
