About The Position

An established acute care hospital in Fort Walton Beach, Florida is seeking a compassionate and experienced Director of Behavioral Health Services to lead a 48-bed inpatient behavioral health unit. This role oversees clinical operations, strategic growth, staff development, and performance improvement within the department. The ideal candidate is an empathetic, high-performing nurse leader with a passion for mental health services, regulatory compliance, and patient-centered care.

Requirements

  • Current RN license in the State of Florida (or Compact License)
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing or Healthcare Administration
  • Minimum 5 years of recent inpatient Behavioral Health management or assistant director experience
  • BLS certification within 30 days of hire
  • Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (NCI/CPI) within 90 days of hire

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s Degree in Nursing, Behavioral Health, or related field
  • Experience managing acute care psychiatric or dual-diagnosis units
  • Strong leadership, budgeting, and strategic planning skills

Responsibilities

  • Direct day-to-day operations of the inpatient behavioral health unit, ensuring quality, safety, and compliance.
  • Develop and implement departmental policies, clinical protocols, and performance goals.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, and compassionate care.
  • Collaborate with medical staff, case management, and community partners to coordinate care and expand behavioral health services.
  • Oversee staffing, scheduling, and employee development for approximately 24 FTEs.
  • Monitor budgets, productivity, and resource utilization to ensure financial sustainability.
  • Support interdisciplinary teams in maintaining a therapeutic, safe, and recovery-focused environment.
  • Drive quality metrics and regulatory readiness, ensuring compliance with CMS, Joint Commission, and state standards.
  • Lead initiatives to improve patient experience, engagement, and clinical outcomes.
