About The Position

The Beacon School is a day program which provides a placement option for students with severe emotional disorders or chronic behavioral difficulties from cooperative-member school districts. Member districts refer students to this program when the students' behaviors are too severe to be successfully addressed in their home school districts. Joplin Schools acts as the fiscal agent, thus all Beacon staff are employees of Joplin Schools.

Requirements

Missouri Administrator certification
Missouri Special Education Teacher certification
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Valid driver's license

Nice To Haves

Preference will be given to successful administrative experience and proven leadership skills and extensive experience working with students with significant behavioral needs
Preference will also be given to candidates with Special Education Administrator certification
Proven track record of being able to define and implement evidence-based programs designed to guide school improvement vision for special education population, preferred
Demonstrated proficiency in teaching and facilitating adult learners, supervision and evaluation of employees and data management, preferred

Responsibilities

Coordinate services for eligible students from sending schools
Work collaboratively with consortium superintendents and special education director to ensure quality education for applicable students
Develop, monitor, and evaluate assigned personnel growth plans
Assist in the training, supervision and evaluation of certified and support staff as assigned
Supervision of instruction
Making hiring recommendations to the Board
General supervision of students
Maintaining building records
Preparation and management of the building budget
Creation and update of student handbooks in conjunction with area special education directors
Positive interaction with students, parents, and all other stakeholders
Administration of student discipline
An individual who holds this position is expected to attend any required meetings, and other student activities when applicable
Coordinate the preparation of monthly board report
Coordinate the referral process for potential students including making sure referral packets are complete
Attend IEP meetings, be prepared to be the LEA
Support new case managers in scheduling of IEP/Eval meetings, completion of IEP documentation, and completing quarterly progress
Support new teachers with recording grades in the student information system
Approval of leave for staff
Approve timesheets for hourly employees, fix time sheet errors
Other duties as assigned
