The Director of Banquets is a strategic and hands-on leader responsible for orchestrating world-class banquet and event service operations across multiple resort venues. This role drives exceptional guest experiences, operational excellence, team engagement, and strong financial performance. From beachfront weddings to grand-scale conferences of 1,000+ guests, the Director ensures every detail reflects the resort’s elevated service standards and commitment to memorable celebrations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Hospitality, Business, or related field preferred (equivalent leadership experience considered).
  • 5+ years of progressive banquet/event leadership experience in a luxury hotel, resort, or large-scale venue.
  • Demonstrated success managing high-volume events ranging from intimate gatherings to 1,000+ guest functions.
  • Deep knowledge of banquet service standards, food & beverage operations, event logistics, and POS systems.
  • Strong financial acumen and data-driven decision-making skills.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and organizational abilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and event management software.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required by event schedules.
  • Stand and walk for extended periods (10–12+ hours during major events).
  • Lift, push, or carry up to 50 lbs during setup and breakdown.
  • Bend, stoop, reach overhead, and climb step stools/ladders when needed.
  • Work in both indoor and outdoor venues, including exposure to heat, humidity, and variable weather.
  • Maintain visual attention to detail and communicate effectively in fast-paced, high-energy environments.

Responsibilities

  • Direct all banquet and event operations from planning and set-up through flawless execution and breakdown.
  • Ensure every function aligns precisely with Banquet Event Orders (BEOs), service standards, timelines, and guest expectations.
  • Partner seamlessly with culinary, catering, conference services, sales, and resort departments to deliver cohesive, high-impact events.
  • Oversee multiple venues simultaneously in a high-volume, luxury resort environment.
  • Monitor staffing, room layouts, décor, AV, lighting, and service flow to guarantee polished, sophisticated presentation.
  • Maintain impeccable aesthetic standards—from table settings to ambiance—ensuring every space feels intentional and refined.
  • Recruit, develop, and inspire a high-performing team of managers, supervisors, captains, servers, bartenders, and housepersons.
  • Build strong service culture rooted in accountability, collaboration, and guest-focused excellence.
  • Develop SOPs and training programs that create consistency and elevate service across venues.
  • Forecast staffing needs, optimize labor, and mentor emerging leaders within the department.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and provide ongoing coaching to drive engagement and retention.
  • Actively monitor live events, anticipating needs and resolving challenges with poise and professionalism.
  • Handle VIP and high-profile guest interactions with confidence and warmth.
  • Conduct post-event reviews, analyze feedback, and continuously refine service delivery.
  • Model the resort’s luxury service philosophy in every interaction.
  • Drive profitability through strategic budgeting, labor management, cost control, and vendor oversight.
  • Analyze key performance metrics including revenue per event, labor percentage, F&B margins, and ancillary sales.
  • Collaborate with Sales and Catering to maximize upsell opportunities and enhance event packages.
  • Protect and manage banquet assets, inventory, equipment, and venue readiness.
  • Ensure adherence to health, safety, liquor licensing, fire code, and resort standards.
  • Partner with Engineering and Facilities to maintain pristine, event-ready spaces.
  • Oversee maintenance and inventory of banquet equipment and décor assets.
