Position Purpose Reporting to Heartland’s CTO, the Director of Application Solutions is responsible for the strategy, architecture, selection, and lifecycle management of the organization’s core business applications, with primary accountability for the Practice Information Management System (PiMS) platform and AI-enabled application capabilities. This role partners closely with business and technology leaders to deliver scalable, secure, and high-value technology platforms aligned to defined business capabilities. The Director of Application Solutions serves as the lead solution architect for major initiatives, oversees application evaluations, and translates technology demand into actionable roadmaps that support operational growth and standardization. This position operates as a peer to the leaders of IT Operations, BI & Data, and Vendor Management and plays a key role in shaping the organization’s long-term technology strategy. This is a full-time remote role.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Business, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 8+ years of progressive experience in application leadership, solution architecture, or technology platform management.
  • Proven experience leading business application strategy and delivery in a multi-site or high-growth environment.
  • Hands-on experience with solution architecture and software/platform selection.
  • Demonstrated fluency in modern programming languages such as Python and .Net/C#, with the ability to apply that knowledge to solution architecture, application design, automation, and AI-enabled platforms.
  • Ability to define development standards and effectively lead internal and vendor development efforts using modern engineering practices.
  • Experience translating business needs into technology roadmaps and scalable solutions.
  • Experience working in a matrixed environment and influencing without direct authority.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree preferred but not required.
  • Experience in healthcare, veterinary, retail, or other multi-location operational environments.
  • Experience with PiMS or similar operational/clinical systems.
  • Experience implementing or scaling AI-enabled business applications.
  • Experience establishing application lifecycle management and portfolio rationalization.

Responsibilities

  • Define and execute the strategy and roadmap for core business applications, with primary accountability for the PiMS platform.
  • Align application capabilities to business priorities, driving standardization, scalability, and long-term value.
  • Establish and manage the lifecycle for applications, including introduction, optimization, and retirement.
  • Serve as the lead solution architect for major initiatives and new technology adoption.
  • Lead the evaluation and selection of software and platforms, translating business needs into scalable, supportable solutions.
  • Ensure alignment with infrastructure, security, and data strategies through close partnership with IT Operations and BI & Data.
  • Identify, evaluate, and guide the adoption of AI-enabled applications that deliver measurable operational and clinical value.
  • Establish practical governance and standards for AI solutions within the application portfolio.
  • Lead application initiatives through a combination of direct and matrixed resources.
  • Act as the primary technology partner to business leaders for application and platform capabilities.
  • Partner with Vendor Management and cross-functional IT leaders on software selection to ensure successful delivery and adoption.
