About The Position

The Division of Advancement and Alumni Engagement utilizes resources, technology, and business for the purpose of constituent engagement, donor research and solicitation, and stewardship throughout Emory University and Health Systems. Our mission is to inspire and steward meaningful, lasting relationships that elevate engagement and giving to fulfill Emory’s mission to serve humanity. AAE is a high-performance team built on innovative ideas, trust, and accountability. We foster collaborative connections and value inclusion. We are currently seeking a Director of Alumni Engagement. The Candler School of Theology’s mission is to educate the faithful and creative leaders for the church’s ministries throughout the world. They seek creative and curious students who are called to join the Christian community to discern, learn, pray, minister, and serve. Candler is an intellectually vital, internationally distinguished, and intentionally diverse university-based school of theology. This position will report to the Managing Senior Director of Development for Candler School of Theology.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree and five years' experience in alumni engagement, fundraising, or public relations.
  • Successful candidates will possess strong organizational, written and verbal communication, and effective presentation skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills with attention to detail, the ability to work with ambiguity, navigate a complex work environment, and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Experience managing volunteers and events, leading teams, working independently as well as collaboratively to achieve goals, with a commitment to delivering exceptional customer service.
  • Experience working with various technologies including advanced knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office Suite, mass email applications, database and project management software, and CRM systems.
  • Flexibility to accommodate changing priorities and deadlines.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience in advancement, fundraising, alumni engagement, non-profit, or a university setting.
  • Experience with faith-based institutions in either volunteer or professional roles.

Responsibilities

  • Develops, designs, leads, and implements programs and activities designed to strengthen ties between a school, unit, or program and its constituents.
  • Develops, markets, plans, and manages the events/activities coordinated through the designated program.
  • Responsible for increasing alumni engagement through alumni and student programming and events, special interest groups, volunteer programs, affinity programs, and online services.
  • Develops, cultivates, and manages relationships with volunteers, board, chapter, and affinity alumni organizations.
  • Develops and advances program or school relationships both within the division, and other campus offices, schools/divisions.
  • Supports the representation of the program off campus and manage the integration of activities with other initiatives/events.
  • Manages a school, unit, or program budget.
  • Performs related responsibilities as required.
  • Partner with division advancement and engagement officers to qualify, engage, cultivate, solicit, and steward potential prospects.
  • Maintain information on selected alumni and prospects including activity reports in CRM system.
  • Meet department metrics for visit preparation, qualification, activity reports, visits, referrals, and accurate coding using the CRM system.
  • Track and evaluate program metrics and produce reports on program and event participants to provide an analysis of populations served and directly support achieving goals for respective volunteer programs.
  • Use CRM and other applications to communicate with stakeholders, track progress, and collect, analyze, and interpret information to inform operations.
  • Distribute monthly e-newsletter prepared by Candler Communications.
  • Establish and maintain meaningful relationships with alumni through ongoing cultivation and strategic stewardship. Leverage relationships and connections to strategically engage individual prospects or groups/networks.
  • Develop and conduct individual and training programs, orientations, and written materials for alumni programs.
  • Develop, lead, and train colleagues and volunteers to execute digital engagement campaigns/programs in support of increased connectivity, philanthropy, and presence across alumni communities.
  • Direct Senior Class Giving Campaign.
  • Direct activities of the Candler Alumni Board.
  • Maintain knowledge/expertise of best practices and current trends for alumni engagement.
