About The Position

Plan, schedule, and implement a program of individual and group activities based on resident's needs, in accordance with the facility's policies and programs and consistent with federal, state, and local rules and regulations.

Requirements

  • Qualified/eligible for qualifications under NC state licensing regulations.
  • Five or more years experience in nursing/health care/retirement setting.
  • Thorough understanding of the needs of ill geriatric residents.
  • Must be able to use the English language to satisfy the communications and record keeping requirements involved in the performance of this job position with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Must maintain neat, well-groomed appearance adhering to dress code of the facility.
  • Must satisfy all established licensing and certification requirements applicable to this job position.
  • Must be able to safely perform all essential job functions without harm to self or others with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Must comply with facility's drug testing and substance abuse program and policies.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, develop, organize, implement, evaluate, and direct the activity program for residents in the nursing center/assisted living unit.
  • Keep abreast of current federal and state regulations, as well as professional standards, and make recommendations as needed on changes in policies and procedures to the administration.
  • Assist in development of the department budget and monitor expenditures to stay within the budget.
  • Interview residents and families as necessary to determine the spiritual, social, recreational, and emotional needs of the residents.
  • Perform administrative requirements, such as completing necessary forms, reports, etc., and submitting to the administrator as required.
  • Complete the activity component of the resident assessment within 14 days of admission and periodically thereafter as required.
  • Identify and document in the resident's care plan the activity interests, needs, and problems of the resident, and how these are being addressed.
  • Update care plans according to requirements, or as condition changes.
  • Serve as an active member of the interdisciplinary team and attend resident care conferences.
  • Plan and implement evening and weekend functions as necessary.
  • Participate in the employment of activity assistants, and periodically conducts an evaluation of their job performance.
  • Recruit, schedule and supervise volunteers.
  • Organize and schedule community events related to resident's interests.
  • Plan, schedule and implement room visits and in-room activities for residents unable to leave their room.
  • Review resident complaints and grievances and make necessary oral/written reports to the Administrator.
  • Recommend to the Administrator equipment and supply needs of the department, and maintain an adequate supply of materials to implement activity program.
  • Report all incidents/accidents immediately according to facility policy.
  • Prepare and keep current an activity calendar, posting the calendar in conspicuous locations throughout the facility.
  • Be alert to any changes in residents' physical or behavioral condition and report to the nursing supervisor immediately.
  • Assist with planning and conducting Resident Council at least once each month.
  • Create and maintain an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest and positive interest, as well as a calm environment throughout the department.
  • Assist in arranging transportation for field trips and to other facilities when necessary.
  • Coordinate activities with other departments as necessary, and seek assistance from other staff in planning and implementing facility-wide special events.
  • Assist bed residents by visiting with them, writing letters, running errands, etc., as needed.
  • Maintain an on-going record system that provides the information and documentation necessary to identify actions, activities, programs and services.
  • Works tactfully and cooperatively with resident, families, visitors, and other staff throughout the facility.
  • Abides by department policies, practices, and standards of care.
  • Properly uses and cares for equipment and supplies.
  • Follows all safety, security, infection control, universal precautions, and hazardous materials policies and procedures.
  • Performs all tasks to assure resident personal safety and the protection of co-workers and facility property.
  • Knows and ensures that all resident rights are maintained at all times.
  • Reports any violations or suspected deviations according to facility property.
  • Maintains confidentiality of all resident care information.
  • Changes work schedule or works overtime on occasion to meet the needs of the facility.
  • Comes to work as scheduled and consistently demonstrates dependability and punctuality, Assists other staff members as needed within the limits of training and certification.
  • Assumes responsibility and accountability for information contained in the Employee Information Booklet.
  • Attend staff meetings, in-service classes, and committee meetings as assigned.
  • Performs other related duties as directed by Administrator.
