We are seeking a Director of Accounting in Buffalo, NY who is detail-oriented, enjoys new challenges, and is self-motivated. The Director of Accounting leads the operations and development of the financial services teams, and is responsible for the accounting functions, financial statement review and reporting and financial analysis for a portfolio of assigned real estate properties. This includes developing systems and procedures, oversight of the accounting team and financial reporting functions, and owner/agency financial services and support. The Director of Accounting also supports the onsite property team and leadership team with training and education in financial related areas.

Requirements

  • Bachelor Degree in accounting or higher with at least 5 years of management experience.

  • RealPage Accounting Experience (preferred but not required)
  • New York State housing reporting experience is a plus!

Responsibilities

  • Financial Operations Reviews and analyzes MOR’s monthly.
  • Assists the CFO in the review of compliance and property adherence to regulations of federal and state housing agencies.
  • Assists the CFO in various financial projects and analyses.
  • Assists in the annual budget process, including updating and maintaining budget database for financial related line items.
  • Assists in annual independent audits, including organizing audit work paper packages and reviewing audited statements and adjustments. Between audit firm and general partner.
  • Oversees submissions of all financially related monthly, quarterly and annual agency and syndicator reporting requirements.
  • Calculates and processes annual owner distributions as directed by General Partners.
  • Facilitates the transition of new properties and departing properties, including coordination as needed with owner/prior agent.
  • Assists in preparation and support of construction accounting and pre-closing audits, as applicable.
  • Develop systems and procedures specific to needs of back-of-house clients.
  • Opens and closes bank accounts.
  • Sets up banking information in appropriate programs.
  • Approves ACH transfers and manual account transfers as required.
  • Reviews cash account balances in conjunction with insurance limits.
  • Coordinates payment of delinquent property taxes.
  • Coordinates payment of property insurance bills.
  • Coordinates information for annual external tax assessment review.
  • Coordinates annual processing of 1099’s and 1096’s.
  • Processes monthly period closings.
  • Updates monthly financial statement designs.
  • Coordinates annual period closings and data transfer.
  • Imports annual budgets.
  • Conducts annual budget training classes, as needed.
  • Coordinates and facilitates training of new team members.
  • Coordinates monthly team meetings, including training and leadership topics to promote team development and a positive work environment.
  • Leads development and execution of departmental WIG’s (Wildly Important Goals)
  • Conducts monthly one-on-one meetings with each team member to assist in training, development and personal growth.
  • Conduct additional training classes as needed.
  • Communicates with owners/agencies/syndicators to provide support and financial assistance, as needed.
  • Assist property accountants with preparation of reporting and financial and/or AR software questions as needed.
  • Confirms submission of all items required as per MSHDA’s premium management fee policy, if applicable for portfolio.
  • Oversees any state agency regulation policies and submissions.
  • Coordinates responses for the yearly Rural Development review letters.
  • Oversee property insurance claims procedures within financial services.
