Through collaboration and professional development, the Director empowers teachers to approach emerging technologies with confidence and discernment. The Director partners with faculty and academic leaders to ensure that digital tools, such as generative AI, support clarity of purpose, intellectual honesty, and respect for Kent School’s standards of rigor.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required; master’s preferred.
  • Demonstrated excellence in secondary school teaching.
  • Experience coaching faculty and leading professional development.
  • Strong understanding of curriculum design and assessment.
  • Knowledge of artificial intelligence and emerging technologies in education.
  • Fluency with Canvas and Google Workspace.
  • Excellent communication skills, sound judgment, and the capacity to build trust.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with the Academic Dean and department chairs to define the appropriate role of technology in curriculum and instruction.
  • Supports faculty in designing assessments and classroom practices that uphold academic integrity in an evolving digital landscape.
  • Teaches the equivalent of one year-long course in an area of expertise.
  • Co-leads the development and ongoing review of school policy related to artificial intelligence and responsible technology use.
  • Designs and leads professional development (including the onboarding of new faculty) focused on instructional practice, academic integrity, and responsible technology use.
  • Serves as a faculty coach to teachers with varying levels of expertise and comfort with technology.
  • Collaborates with Community Learning to foster digital citizenship and ethical technology use among students.
  • Strengthens instructional practice through purposeful applications of digital tools.
  • Facilitates effective use of Canvas, Google Workspace, and related platforms in collaboration with the Technology Department.
  • Establishes and maintains systems for vetting educational tools for cost, data privacy, and safety, while sunsetting outdated platforms.
  • Collaborates with the Director of Technology to align academic priorities with institutional technology planning.
  • Assists in the thoughtful evaluation and rollout of digital textbooks and instructional resources.
