Position SummaryThe Director of Field Safety and Health is responsible for leading and managing all aspects of electric field safety, health, and wellbeing across the New England (NE) Business Unit, working closely with the gas field safety and process safety teams to ensure alignment and collaboration across all safety initiatives. This position ensures the highest standards of safety and health for field operations, in alignment with organizational goals and regulatory requirements. The Director reports directly to the Vice President, NE Safety, Health, and Assurance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field preferred; advanced degree preferred.
  • Extensive knowledge of OSHA regulations and compliance requirements applicable to electric field operations.
  • Demonstrated experience applying Human and Organizational Performance (HOP) principles in a field environment.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in operations or field safety leadership roles
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with proven ability to influence and drive safety culture at all levels of the organization.
  • Experience managing large, geographically dispersed teams and complex safety programs.
  • Valid driver's license required with a safe driving history that meets National Grid's Safe Driver Policy.
  • Candidates must maintain primary residence within the Greater Boston or Central MA region and be available for regular on-site presence as required.
  • Periodic travel throughout the NE Business Unit is expected.

Nice To Haves

  • Electric utility sector experience preferred
  • Professional safety certifications (e.g., CSP, CIH, CHST) are highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of safety for electric field operations and health programs across the NE Business Unit.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA standards and other relevant federal, state, and local regulations governing workplace safety and health.
  • Lead and support the development and delivery of integrated health and wellbeing programs, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration and proactive care to advance the physical and mental health of personnel across the NE Business Unit.
  • Promote and integrate the five Principles of Human and Organizational Performance (HOP) principles into all field safety and health initiatives.
  • Provide leadership, guidance, and support to field safety teams, collaborating with the gas field safety team, to foster a culture of safety and wellbeing.
  • Collaborate with operational leaders and cross-functional teams to identify and mitigate safety risks and champion continuous improvement to empower everyone to operate safely and efficiently.
  • Monitor and analyze safety performance metrics, incident trends, and audit findings to inform strategic decision-making and enhance field safety outcomes.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert and primary contact for internal and external stakeholders on matters related to electric field safety and health.
  • Support incident investigations and promote learning from safety events to improve field operations.
  • Develop and deliver training, communication, and engagement initiatives to advance safety awareness and best practices among field personnel.
