About The Position

As the director of underwriting in national accounts, you will help facilitate and foster sound underwriting and business decisions, develop effective relationships, and contribute toward the growth of the underwriting department in an effort to write and retain long term profitable business. Oversee day-to-day production activities of the team; training and developing the underwriters, regular communication between our sales organization as well as other parts of the organization and their team members, and other ad hoc needs Risk Decisions: Apply sound and creative underwriting and business judgments to contribute to the growth and profitability of the organization while guiding and mentoring your team to provide the same high-level of timely analysis and evaluation of insurance risks. Customer Service: Develop and maintain effective working relationships with assigned field personnel, producers, assigned policyholders, and internal teams through professional negotiation, responsive communication, problem resolution, and anticipation of customer needs. Projects and Special Assignments: Actively participate in projects as well as provide team members to participate in projects to contribute to corporate goals.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in business is preferred, additional experience in lieu of degree
  • 3-5 years of experience in a leadership position.
  • 5-7 years of experience in Life, Absence, and Disability underwriting, preferably in national accounts
  • Strong leadership experience and proven ability to understand, mentor, and guide the intricate work of a high-performing underwriting team.
  • Proven ability to partner with and meet the expectations of sales partners and brokers using strong interpersonal relationship skills and business acumen.
