About The Position

The Director of Materials Management is a strategic leader responsible for the end-to-end lifecycle of medical supplies, pharmaceuticals, and capital equipment across the organization. This role balances the critical need for uninterrupted clinical care with the fiscal necessity of cost containment and lean logistics. You will oversee procurement, inventory management, distribution, and vendor relations while ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain, or Healthcare Administration (Master’s preferred).
  • 7–10 years in Supply Chain Management, with at least 3 years in a hospital or healthcare setting.
  • CMRP (Certified Materials & Resource Professional) or CSCP (Certified Supply Chain Professional) is highly desirable.
  • Proficiency in ERP systems (e.g., Oracle, Allscripts, Infor) and advanced Excel modeling.
  • Clinical Empathy: Understanding that a delayed shipment isn't just a metric—it's a patient safety risk.
  • Negotiation Prowess: Ability to navigate complex contracts and hold vendors accountable to Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
  • Analytical Rigor: Ability to translate complex data sets into actionable cost-saving initiatives.
  • Leadership: Experience managing multidisciplinary teams and fostering a culture of accountability.

Responsibilities

  • Strategic Sourcing & Procurement: Lead the selection and negotiation of Group Purchasing Organization (GPO) contracts and local vendor agreements to ensure high-quality supplies at the best value.
  • Inventory & Logistics Management: Optimize par levels across all clinical departments (ER, OR, ICU, etc.) to prevent stockouts while minimizing waste and expired products.
  • Financial Oversight: Manage the annual supply chain budget, analyze spend patterns, and report on Variances. You will be expected to meet aggressive annual cost-saving targets.
  • Process Improvement: Implement "Just-in-Time" (JIT) or Lean methodologies to modernize warehouse operations and distribution workflows.
  • Systems Leadership: Oversee the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system and automated dispensing technology to ensure data integrity and accurate tracking.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all supply chain activities meet The Joint Commission, CMS, and HIPAA standards.
